Palms Golf Club InterContinental Riyadh, the golf course of choice to hone one’s short game skills, staged the 1st monthly medal event of the season last Friday that counted as the Volvo World Pro Am preliminary qualifier event. Two top scorers of the event will represent Palms Golf Club in the Volvo KSA final set for middle of November.

The InterCon regulars enjoyed a good day out on the course as the weather conditions were excellent in the early morning tee off. The course was in perfect shape with lush fairways and manicured greens.


South African golfer Roy Evans won the A-Division ( handicap 0-6) with level par 36 Stableford points while Filipino ace Alex Arellano claimed the runner-up position on 31 points.


Korean Kim Soon Kyu bagged the B-Division (7-12) championship with an excellent score of 2 under par 38 Stableford points to qualify for the Volvo KSA final. Another Filipino golf enthusiast, Joe Vallado, compiled 36 points to secure second position in the same division.

Pakistani golfer Zafarullah Khan enjoyed a major victory in his golfing career matching Kim’s score of 38 points in winning C-Division(13-18) and becoming the second qualifier from Palms Golf Club for the Volvo KSA final.

Another Pakistani, Mahmood Khalid, was the runner-up just a point behind Zafar on 37 points.

In the Ladies Division Nak Yong Kim, wife of the B-Division champion, bagged first place with a remarkable score of 37 points.

Asst. Golf Club Manager Baby Joseph thanked the players as well was the InterContinental management for the great support they extended to the event. Recreation Manager Mounir Melliti handed out the trophies and prizes to the winners assisted by club professional Mohd. Anwar Naz.

The event concluded with a sumptuous buffet lunch.
