LONDON: Liverpool beat fourth-tier Exeter at the second attempt in the FA Cup on Wednesday, with reserves Sheyi Ojo and Joao Carlos Teixeira scoring their first goals for the club to complete a 3-0 victory in a third-round replay.

Joe Allen’s second goal in as many matches had set a much-changed Liverpool side on its way to a home meeting with West Ham in the fourth round.

“It is a long way for these young boys but they showed what they are already able to do and what they have to learn,” Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp said. “If everyone stays cool ... it is not protecting them but giving the lads time to develop.”

In an all-Premier League replay, Tottenham secured its first victory over Leicester at the fourth time of asking this season.

Son Heung-min scored in the first half and then set up Nacer Chadli in the 66th minute to clinch a 2-0 victory for Tottenham, which started with top-scorer Harry Kane on the bench.

Tottenham faces third-tier Colchester in the fourth round.

“The FA Cup is an important competition for us and we showed we have a squad that is good enough to compete in every competition,” Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino said.

Tottenham is fourth in the league, five points behind pacesetters Arsenal and Leicester.

“I am not disappointed with the performance,” Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri said. “We play Tottenham four times — won one, lost one and two draws.”

Monaco, Lyon advance in French Cup

Five-time winner Monaco was pushed to extra time before securing its spot in the round of 16 of the French Cup with a 3-1 win over second-tier Evian on Wednesday.

Playing with a reshuffled but strong team featuring Ricardo Carvalho, Joao Moutinho and Bernardo Silva, Monaco failed to extend its lead following Lacina Traore’s opener in the 45th minute.

Former Monaco midfielder Morgan Kamin pulled the teams level in the 63rd minute as Evian created the second half’s best chances but Mario Pasalic converted a good cross from Moutinho to put the visitors back in command in the 104th. Helder Costa then sealed Monaco’s win.

Lyon defeated Chambly 2-0 and fourth-division Trelissac produced the shock result of the evening with a victory over Lille on penalties.

Juventus beats Lazio 1-0 to set up Cup semis against Inter

Holder Juventus will meet bitter rival Inter Milan in the Italian Cup semifinals after winning 1-0 at Lazio on Wednesday in a repeat of last year’s final.

Stephan Lichtsteiner scored the only goal in the 66th minute, slotting the rebound toward the bottom right corner after Simone Zaza hit the left post. Lazio goalkeeper Etrit Berisha pushed away the ball but it had already crossed the line.

Berisha had kept his side in the match, diving smartly to keep out a Paul Pogba snapshot in the first half.

He also denied Alvaro Morata with his leg in the 51st. Zaza fired the follow-up into the side-netting with the goal gaping.

Meanwhile, in the league, Sassuolo drew 1-1 with Torino to move level on points with AC Milan in sixth place.
