The Jeddah Lifestylez Basketball League opened its 2014 JBL Inter-Commercial Non-rated Basketball Tournament last Friday at the Bin Mahfouz court in Andalus District here.

Participating teams paraded in their resplendent uniforms during the opening ceremony that was presided by JBL President Mohammed Rasheed Suyat and BOG’s Wagner Laconico.

Jeddah Dawah Center Bro. Ahmed “Baba” Peradilla and Bro. Ali Abdullah Lumanog were the chief guests.

The awards for the Best Team in uniform went to Power Center, Best Team Mascot and Muse to FCCI and Al Shaheq Company.

In the opening game, FCCI of Ariel Acedera beat Power Center team all the way from Bahra 70-65. Power Center managed to dictate the tempo of the game up to the third quarter. FCCI went to man-to-man defense to slowly trim down the lead to single digit. Power Center missed important baskets in the dying minutes while FCCI went to the open man to grab the driver’s seat. Ricky Reloj top-scored with 30 points for FCCI and was adjudged as the Lifestylez best player of the game while Vinzon Aniel scored 15 points for Power Center.

This tournament is principally sponsored by Lifestylez with ABS-CBN - The Filipino Channel, Saudi Sign (Sam Adora), Al Haddaf Sportswear (Mohamed Bayoumi) and Arab News as co-sponsors.

Fame Warriors of Jerry Miramonte defeated Unicorp 47-39. It was a tight ball game up to the final quarter. Fame Warriors’s running game was unstoppable but Unicorp with their own style of run-and-gun offense kept its rival at bay.

Unicorp committed back-to=back turnovers in dying seconds as Fame Warriors played their offense well in the end game. Jayson Lim had 19 points for Fame Warriors and was adjudged as the JBL best player of the game while Paulo Pabustan led Unicorp with 15 points.

Al Salama 2 defeated Al Salamah 3 57-50. Al Salama 2 played organized offense in the fourth quarter as Al Salama 3 tried hard but missed important shots in the crucial seconds of the game. Bajas scored 13 points for Al Salama 2 and was adjudged as the Lifestylez best player of the game while Lugatuc chipped in 15 for Al Salama 3.

Al Baladia defeated Saudia City 74-57. Al Baladia showed no mercy in the fourth quarter as they continued to attack the Saudia City defense. Saudia City lost steam in the crucial minutes of the game. Igar top-scored with 20 points for Al Baladia and was adjudged as the JBL best player of the game while Cabuquin led the Saudia City with 20 points.

This weekend highlights will be the opening games of JBL Weak Division and the 4th MYN Basketball Tournament starting at 5:30 p.m. Eight teams are entered in the Weak Division and 7 teams in the 4th MYN Championship Trophy. Fuddruckers was the 1st & 2nd MYN champion with Hyundai Centennial clinching the 3rd MYN championship title.
