JEDDAH: Unbeaten FedEx team of Noel Sun moved within a win of record-setting 10-game title sweep by beating Halwani 98-92 in Game 1 of the best-of-three series for the OFBL (Overseas Filipino Basketball League) Inter-Company Bonafide Division championship last Friday.

The finals was set after FedEx and Halwani both won their semifinals the previous week.

No. 1 seed FedEx did its part of the bargain by routinely beating fourth semifinalist Bahra Cable but second seed Le Mall Alshaya failed to do what looked like a giveaway against No. 4 Halwani, collapsing in the last two minutes and eventually losing despite its full-strength squad against the seven good men that dressed for Halwani.

Now, FedEx will go for the clincher to a perfect tournament very few teams in the past had achieved. In all likelihood FedEx should be able to make it given that Sun’s charges enjoyed easy victories in the eliminations and it is only Alshaya that managed to produce a close result.

On Week 6 of the OFBL 9th Conference Morning Division, the rampant Solid North continued to shut down their oppenents in the 5’11 & Below group, beating Repapipz 89-69.

Steady Jeddah Lions of Erwin Carpena showed their speed and great defense, beating the mighty Yummy Yummy Team 78-74. Jeddah Lions improved to 2-1 in the team Standings as they handed Yummy Yummy its first defeat in two outings.
