JEDDAH: The Friday Evening Division of Overseas Filipino Basketball League (OFBL) is getting hotter and exciting as the Inter-Company Bonafide Division entered the last few games for positioning for the four spots in the semifinals.
Leading title contender for the Bonafide Division FedEx escaped a younger Le Mall Alshaya team in an 83-81 decision.
Llamado led the way for FedEx spiking his tally with 4 three points, while Gange led the LeMall Alshaya’s losing cause.
The game should have gone to overtime when head coach Erwin Carpena of Alshaya sued for time for the last play with 2 seconds left. But Ortigeras missed an open side jumper to fail to complete a well executed play by Alshaya, which went down to its second loss in six games.
The victory raised FedEx’s perfect record to 7-0 and gave coach Noel a further reason to celebrate after securing a twice to beat privilege in the crossover semifinal format.
In the other in the Evening Division game, Halwani won by default over PSI Team.
In the Season 9 Week 2 in ther Friday Morning League Open Height Division, Mosaid team pulled the rug from under fancied Yummy Yummy 84- 78.
Yummy Yummy was in control of the game from the start but Mosaid, Alvin Leal team, swamped Yummy Yummy down the stretch to score the victory.
In the second game, Jeddah Lions defeated Holiday Inn – Reborn Team in the 5’11 below Division. Using a fast-paced game the Lions, outplayed newcomer Holiday Inn. Leading the Lions were Taguiam and Reyes.
In the third game, defending champion Repapipz showed why they are still the team to beat in the Friday Morning Division taking down Tropang Taken 77-65 in cruise control game.
