ATLANTA: Lance Austin returned a blocked field goal 78 yards for a touchdown on the final play of the game, giving Georgia Tech a stunning 22-16 victory over No. 9 Florida State in college football on Saturday.

Roberto Aguayo, one of the most accurate kickers in the country, attempted a 56-yard field goal to win the game for the Seminoles (6-1, 4-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) with six seconds remaining. But the kick was low, and Georgia Tech’s Patrick Gamble deflected the ball and Austin retrieved it and scored to win the game for Georgia Tech (3-5, 1-4).

Georgia Tech ended a five-game losing streak and might have knocked Florida State out of the race for the national college football championship. The Yellow Jackets also broke Florida State’s record-tying streak of 28 straight victories against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents dating to 2012.

In other games, No. 14 Oklahoma State beat Kansas 63-27 hours after a crash near the stadium during homecoming festivities killed four people, Southern California knocked No. 3 Utah from the unbeaten ranks with a 42-24 victory, and No. 23 Duke University topped Virginia Tech 45-43 in four overtimes in the longest game in Atlantic Coast Conference history.

No. 1 Ohio State and No. 2 Baylor also won.

Oklahoma State considered postponing the game after a woman suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol plowed a car into a crowd at the homecoming parade, but decided to go ahead with it.

Backup quarterback J.W. Walsh ran for three touchdowns and passed for two more scores and Mason Rudolph completed 20 of 26 passes for 305 yards and had a touchdown for the Cowboys (7-0, 4-0 Big 12 Conference).

In Los Angeles, Cameron Smith returned the second of his three interceptions 54 yards for a touchdown and Ronald Jones II, Justin Davis and fullback Soma Vainuku rushed for scores to help the Trojans (4-3, 2-2 Pac-12 Conference) end their two-game losing streak.

Cody Kessler passed for 264 yards and a touchdown and rushed for another score, while JuJu Smith-Schuster had eight catches for 143 yards and a fourth-quarter TD that wrapped up the win.

Britain Covey caught two touchdown passes for the Utes (6-1, 3-1), whose eight-game winning streak was broken.

Duke’s Thomas Sirk threw four touchdown passes and ran for a 2-point conversion in the fourth overtime to lift the Blue Devils past Virginia Tech.

Sirk hit Erich Schneider with a 25-yard scoring pass on the first play of the fourth overtime after the Hokies had scored and missed the mandatory 2-point attempt.

Ohio State’s J.T. Barrett threw three touchdown passes and ran for two scores in his first start of the season, leading the Buckeyes past Rutgers 49-7.

Barrett was 14 for 18 for 223 yards and ran for 101 yards on 13 carries after coach Urban Meyer chose to start him over Cardale Jones this week.

Ohio State (8-0, 4-0 Big Ten Conference) extended its winning streak to 21 games, best in the nation.

Shock Linwood ran for 171 yards and a touchdown and caught a pass for another score as Baylor beat Iowa State 45-27 for its 20th consecutive home victory.

Corey Coleman had two more touchdown catches, his sixth consecutive game with multiple scores, to push his season total to 18, tops in the nation. He also broke Kendall Wright’s school record for career touchdowns with his 31st.

The Bears (7-0, 4-0 Big 12) were held under 60 points for the first time in six games.

Elsewhere, Brandon Harris passed for a career-high 286 yards, with two of his three scoring passes going for more than 50 yards, as No. 5 Louisiana State beat Western Kentucky 48-20.

Deshaun Watson threw a touchdown pass and ran for another score to help No. 6 Clemson rout Miami 58-0, the Hurricanes’ worst loss in their 90-year history.

Michigan State’s Connor Cook threw for 398 yards and four touchdowns as the No. 7 Spartans defeated Indiana 52-26.

Derrick Henry had a 14-yard touchdown run with 2:24 left to lift No. 8 Alabama past Tennessee 19-14.

Also, No. 24 Mississippi beat No. 15 Texas A&M 23-3, No. 17 Oklahoma topped Texas Tech 63-27, No. 19 Toledo defeated Massachusetts 51-35, No. 21 Houston defeated Central Florida 59-10, and No. 25 Pittsburgh edged Syracuse 23-20.
