CALGARY, Alberta: Mark Giordano scored his second goal of the game in overtime and the Calgary Flames came back to end a four-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over the struggling Detroit Red Wings.

Calgary trailed 2-1 when Joe Colborne scored with 1:12 left in the third period. Giordano scored 3:12 into overtime to give Calgary its first win in five home games this year.

Gustav Nyquist and Brendan Smith scored first-period power-play goals as Detroit lost its fourth straight. Jimmy Howard had 37 stops for the Red Wings (3-3-1).

Giordano tied it 1-1 with a goal 11:02 into the first. He also had an assist and seven shots on goal.

Johnny Gaudreau assisted on each of Giordano’s goals, and Jiri Hudler also had two assists.

Jonas Hiller made 27 saves for the Flames (2-5-0).

Canadiens 7, Sabres 2: Brendan Gallagher and Dale Weise scored twice to lead Montreal to a 7-2 win over Buffalo that extended the Canadiens unbeaten start to eight games.

Torrey Mitchell, Max Pacioretty and defenseman Andrei Markov also scored for the Canadiens, while goaltender Mike Condon made 33 saves.

Matt Moulson and Ryan O’Reilly scored for the Sabres (2-5).

Bruins 5, Islanders 3: David Pasternak scored the go-ahead goal late in the second period and Ryan Spooner was credited with an insurance goal shortly before the midway point of the third as the Boston Bruins remained unbeaten on the road with a 5-3 win over the New York Islanders at the Barclays Center.

Brett Connolly scored in the first period and Joonas Kemppainen collected the tying goal in the second for the Bruins (3-3-1), who have won three of four overall.

Boston are 3-0-0 on the road.

Lightning 4, Jets 3 (OT): Ondrej Palat scored 36 seconds into overtime to lift the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 4-3 victory over the Winnipeg Jets.

Palat finished a three-on-one break with Steven Stamkos and Victor Hedman to beat Jets goaltender Ondrej Pavelec on the Lightning’s 31st shot of the game.

Just moments before, Lightning goalie Ben Bishop stopped Jets center Bryan Little on a breakaway.

The Lightning raised their record to 5-2-1 while the Jets picked up one point with the overtime loss and moved to 4-2-1.

Capitals 7, Oilers 4: The Washington Capitals extended their winning streak to five games with a 7-4 win over the Edmonton Oilers.

The Capitals scored three straight goals in the second period at Rexall Place to pull in front for good in a victory that improved their record to 6-1.

Evgeny Kuznetsov led the way for Washington with three goals and two assists.

The Oilers, hoping to even their own record at 4-4, saw their three-game win streak come to an end and fell to 3-5.

Kings 3, Hurricanes 0: Tyler Toffoli scored a pair of goals, sparking the Los Angeles Kings to a 3-0 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes at Staples Center.

Toffoli extended his streak of goals to a career high four games as the Kings (4-3-0) defeated the Hurricanes for the fifth straight time at Staples.

Anze Kopitar also scored for the Kings, who captured their fourth consecutive win. Milan Lucic had two assists for Los Angeles and goaltender Johnathan Quick stopped all 40 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season.
