UNIONDALE, New York: New York’s Thomas Hickey scored 3:06 into overtime to give the Islanders a 3-2 win over Ottawa on Tuesday, maintaining a share of the Metropolitan Division lead.

The Islanders remain level with Pittsburgh, which edged New Jersey, while other key results saw Vancouver win at Washington to take a share of the Western Conference lead and Florida ended Detroit’s four-game winning run.

Defenseman Hickey got his second of the season with a wraparound goal to help the Islanders improve to 8-0 in games decided in overtime or shootouts.

Brock Nelson scored in the second period for the Islanders, who have won seven of eight and Ryan Strome connected in the third.

Mike Hoffman and Clarke MacArthur scored for Ottawa.

Vancouver’s Daniel Sedin scored two of the Canucks’ three power-play goals and assisted on the other in a 4-3 win over Washington.

Sedin scored the winner at 9:39 of the third period when he took a pass from twin brother Henrik in the left circle and fired a shot to the far side of Braden Holtby.

Radim Vrbata added a power-play goal and an assist, and Derek Dorsett also scored for Vancouver.

John Carlson had two goals and an assist, and Brooks Laich also scored for Washington.

Florida’s Sean Bergenheim scored the go-ahead goal midway through the second period as the Panthers won 4-3 at Detroit.

Bergenheim shot into an open net after a giveaway deep in the Red Wings’ zone. Jimmy Hayes, Vincent Trocheck and Aaron Ekblad added goals for the Panthers.

Gustav Nyquist scored with 59 seconds to play to cut the lead to a goal, but the Red Wings never got another good chance. Tomas Tatar and Pavel Datsyuk also scored for Detroit.

Pittsburgh goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 29 shots for his NHL-leading fifth shutout of the season as the Penguins edged New Jersey 1-0.
