JEDDAH: Host team ICD (Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector) scored a convincing 7-1 victory over ICIEC (Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit) in the opening match Thursday in the ICD 3rd Annual Football Tournament at

Greenlawns ground on Kilo 5 near Jeddah.

Two matches were played at the opening day of the tournament being organized on the occasion of the Islamic Development Bank Group’s 41st annual meeting. The second match between Islamic Relief and Anfaal Capital was still being played at press time.

High ranking ICD officials and other dignitaries from international organizations attended the tournament opening Thursday.

Eight teams divided into Group A and Group B are entered in the tournament April 14 to 28.

After the group stage play, the top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals set for April 24. The crossover semifinal will send 1st Group A vs. 2nd Group B in the first game at 5:30 p.m. and 2 nd Group A vs. 1st Group B in the second game at 7 p.m. After three-day rest, the final will take place April 28, a Thursday.

With ICD and ICIEC in Group A are Islamic Relief and Anfaal Capital. Teams in Group B are KAUST (King Abdullah University Science and Technology), Islamic Research and Training Institute, Ewaan Global Residential Company (Ewaan) and Islamic Development Bank (IDB).
