JEDDAH: Indian Consulate entered the semifinals of the inaugural Islamic Development Bank (IDB) organized Inter-Consulate Cricket Tournament organized by IDB’s Social and Cultural Society SOCOM and sponsored by G-BEST (IT).

Indian Consulate routed Sri Lankan counterparts and later went on to get the better of host IDB at the Greenlawn Ground.

In a second round match, Sri Lankan Consulate batted first and put on board 116 for 6 in the stipulated 12 overs. Farshat was the highest scorers with 31 runs followed by Sarfraz (23) and Nilufar (19). Maaz 4 and Anas 2 were the wicket takers.

In reply, the Indian Consulate achieved their target after 8.3 overs. Thanks to Parvez who scored a quick-fire 70 off 26 balls (8 sixes and 2 fours). The other scorers were Maaz (8) and Anas (7).

Darshan, Farshath, Nafeel and Rinos bagged a wicket each.

In the second match, IDB were bundled out for a paltry 44 runs. None of the IDB batsmen were able to cross double figures.

In reply the Indian Consulate achieved their target for the loss of only one wicket in 5.1 overs.

Parvez (11), Maaz (5) and Anas (5) were the scorers.

The Indian and Pakistani Consulates have qualified for the last four stage. IDB, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and South Africa have a match in hand in a must win situation to qualify for the semis.

Last week, Pakistan Consulate beat South African and later went on to get the better of Bangladesh in the opening matches.

In the first match, the South African Consulate batted first and put on 84 runs in the stipulated 12 overs. Wasim top scored with 16. Sulaiman (12) and Ayub (14) gave him support. For Pakistan, Rizwan and Mohammad took a wicket each.

In reply, Pakistan achieved the target in 10 overs. Omar (19), Zahid (10) and Imran (12) were the other scorers. For South Africa, Zubair took two wickets, while Javed and Shahzad claimed one wicket each.

In the second match, Bangladesh Consulate decided to bat first after they won the toss and put up 111 runs. Jean (24), Tariq (21) and Hanif (17) were the main scorers. Khan bagged 2 wickets.

In reply, Pakistan Consulate scored 112 for 3 and won the match by 7 wickets. Osman (31) Imran (30) and Maqsood (10) steered their team to victory. Javed, Babar and Osman took one wicket each.

India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and South Africa and host IDB are taking part in this tourney. The final is scheduled for Dec. 17.
