NEW YORK: The New York Islanders continued their unbeaten start to the new NHL season by scoring four goals from just seven shots in the third period to beat the sliding New York Rangers 6-3 on Tuesday.

Kyle Okposo netted his 100th NHL goal to put the Islanders ahead in the opening minute of the final frame.

Among the day’s other games, New Jersey made it three wins from three road games to start the season when they won at Tampa Bay, Toronto won in overtime against Colorado, and Dallas notched its first victory of the campaign by winning at Columbus.

The Islanders broke loose for four goals in the first 11 minutes of the third and improved to 3-0 while sending the Rangers (1-3) to their third straight loss.

After Okposo’s goal, Brock Nelson made it 4-2 at 4:50, and Mikhail Grabovski connected 30 seconds later to make it a three-goal edge.

New Jersey’s Cory Schneider made 26 saves to help the Devils win 2-1 at Tampa Bay.

Travis Zajac put New Jersey ahead and that stood until 8:59 in the third when Alex Killorn replied for the Lightning.

Mike Cammalleri scored what proved the winner on a power play at 11:19.

Toronto’s Phil Kessel scored 34 seconds into overtime to give the Maple Leafs a 3-2 win at Colorado.

James van Riemsdyk and Joffrey Lupul also scored for Toronto.

Ryan O’Reilly and Matt Duchene scored for the Avalanche, with former Calgary Flames captain Jarome Iginla making two assists to pick up his first points with his new team.

Dallas’ Tyler Seguin scored three goals, including the tiebreaker with 7:44 left, to lift the Stars to a 4-2 victory at Columbus.

Seguin redirected Jamie Benn’s shot to give the Stars the lead then added an empty-netter.

Benn scored and made three assists for the Stars.

Ryan Johansen scored both goals for the Blue Jackets, who were trying to get to 3-0 for the first time in the franchise’s 14 seasons.

San Jose’s Matt Irwin and John Scott were unlikely goal-scorers as the Sharks won 6-5 after a shootout against Washington.

The Sharks led 3-0 in the first period, 4-1 in the second, and 5-3 late in the third before Washington’s Alex Ovechkin and Troy Brouwer scored 1:16 apart to tie the game with 4:35 remaining in regulation.

But Joe Pavelski scored the only goal in the shootout for San Jose which had not conceded a goal in their previous two games this season.

Irwin and Scott, who both scored only one goal last season, combined for the opening three goals.

Anaheim’s William Karlsson and Jakob Silfverberg scored in the shootout to lift the Ducks to a 4-3 win over Philadelphia.

Tim Jackman, Devante Smith-Pelly and Matt Beleskey scored in regulation for the Ducks.

Mark Streit and Wayne Simmonds each scored power-play goals and Jakub Voracek sent the game into OT with the tying goal for the Flyers (0-2-2) who are winless after four games for only the fourth time in franchise history.

Buffalo’s Marcus Foligno had two goals and Zemgus Girgensons scored on a backhand to end a long shootout, as the Sabres beat Carolina 4-3.

Calgary’s Joe Colborne scored the only goal of the shootout to lift the Flames to a 3-2 win at Nashville.

Los Angeles’ Tanner Pearson had two goals and an assist, and linemates Jeff Carter and Tyler Toffoli added a goal and an assist apiece as the Kings cruised past Edmonton 6-1.
