JEDDAH: As if to make up for lost time the 1st Filipino Community Basketball League (FCBL) Basketball Tournament went full blast with a heavy schedule of 10 games for the second week at the Sheraton Jeddah Hotel Sport Complex basketball court here.
Much of the action was concentrated in the group of wannabes Division C3 where four matches were played led of by the Jeddah Hilton-Saco in the second game Thursday.
This game ended 73-60 to Jeddah Hilton with Castillo, scoring a game-high 28 including 9 points in the fourth quarter, as the Best Player of the Game. Castro had 10 points and Salazar 7 for Hilton.
Also debuting with victories in C3, a division with the most entries at 9 teams, were Brawlers, Dbarkadz and Jotun Paints.
Brawlers edged Triple Ace 72-75 in the first game Friday and where Niala was named Best Player with 20 points to go with the 12 by Batalon and 8 apiece by Pendon and Zapanta.
Dbakadz defeated opening day winner Sharbatly Fruits 79-78 in the second game Friday with Best Player Pugao finishing with 19 points including the marginal points in the close contest. Navarro and Mendoza added 15 and 11 for Dbarkadz. Orna led Sharbatly with 18 points.
Jotun Paints, led by Best Player Pacaigue with 24 points, downed Hotel Sofitel 78-69.
Meantime, Taken created an early ripple by beating Uncle Majid 79-76 in the week’s headline game in Division B Reinforced Rated Group of Star Studded Teams.
Pascua, Taken’s reinforcement player lived up to his billing when he emerged Best Player with 18 points while teammate Jumao top-scored with 19 points. Beloria tallied 11 points and Osorio had 10 for Taken which outscored Uncle Majid in the third quarter 23 to 16 points.
Uncle Majid had Magat brothers Arold and Noy scoring 19 and 10 points, while Alarcon added 11 and Mollaneda 10 points.
In a pair of C2 (Inter-Commercial/Bonafide) games, old customer Freyssinet beat Olive Arabia 92-81 and Rimmel, powered by J. Galzote, blasted Kalmado 84-66 in the nightcap Friday.
Suguitan shot 25 points at the helm of Freyssinet and went on to grab Best Player honors. Topscoring for Freyssinet was Castillo with 29 points. Bulcase and Juna had 29 and 25 points in losing efforts for Olive.
J. Galzote finished the game on 18 points to be the Best Player of the game.
Also scoring their first wins were Mohd. Baksh and ALJUF in C1 Group of Fast Rising Teams.
Baksh downed The Legends 73-70 and ALJUF beat overmatched Dar Jana 60-43 in the third game Friday. Also, Nesma defeated King Fahad Armed Forces Hospital 90-88 in B Reinforced Rated match.
