JEDDAH: Jeddah United of Obaid Madani served notice of its potential as a hot contender after it whipped Tamimi Global Team 76-66 in the FBL 2nd Orient Cup Watch basketball tournament at the Rawda court here.
With sheer force and advantage in height and heft and agility, Jeddah United simply outplayed Tamimi, with the Young Mohamed scoring 20 points. Salman and the cat-quick guard Saeed each scored 12 points to back up Mohamed.
Leading the way for Tamimi were Guimpatan with 25 points, Liam with 14 points mostly on fast breaks, and Pascua with 10 points.
Meanwhile, Toyota Motors won its first game against SMDC team 97-93. The slim and tall Villegas scored 30 points, confusing the enemy with his long arms reach and jumping ability at the head of the Toyota charge.
Montano Dela Cruz backed up Villegas with 17 points and Soliverez made 15 points including three from rainbow territory.
Giant Fadi Taweel also contributed 14 points by overpowering his guards.
SMDC’s leading scoreres were Copuz with 24 points, Christian Guimpatan added 23 points with 5 shots from beyond the arc. Jordan added 18 points, mostly sallies from under the basket.
Finally, the Silent Assassins team defeated Jeddah Brothers 101-100 after five minutes of overtime play. The regulation period ended 82-82.
It was a shock result for the Jeddah Brothers who led for most of the game only to end up losing at the five minutes extension.
Silent Assassins displayed patience and consistent scoring to hurdle their first asssigmet in the tournament organized by Filsama Basketball League.
Silent Assassins had Debase as the top scorer with 22 points. Velazques came through with 20 points and Sarabia added 13. For Jeddah Brothers, Bautista tossed I 28 points , Mandia contributed 21 points, and Angkol had 13 points.
