JEDDAH: Jeddah United Hitters and Virgin Mobile Spikers, seeded first and second respectively, played true to form as they set up a title showdown by winning their semifinals against separate opponents in the 2nd Conference Kalayaan Volleyball Cup at Trio Ranch and Country Club courts.
Virgin Mobile put away the first finals berth by beating Play Time in straight sets 25-22, 25-15, with Paul de Leon named as the Best Player of the game.
The unbeaten Jeddah United took some doing in a 25-20, 25-23 victory over KAMC. Viel Christopher Oniel of the Hitters was awarded the Best Player prize.
The win set the Hitters up for 7-game title sweep with Virgin Mobile standing in the way. Whether the Hitters get to go all the way to the championship crown or Virgin Mobile render all the Hitters’ hard work meaningless by winning the big match will be known in the 6:15 p.m. game Friday.
Play Time and KAMC face off in the knockout game for third place.
