KAAU’s offense and defense worked well in the 4th quarter and brought down Subway in overtime 68-60 in a breath-taking Friday morning first game action in a Non-rated Division Group C of the OFBL (Overseas Filipino Basketball League) 6th Conference at Timeout Sports Academy Gymnasium on Television St., Ghulail District on the outskirts of Jeddah.

In the first quarter, KAAU led by four points. It was a see saw battle as Subway managed to come back in the middle quarters of the game. But players like Collete, Torres and Buhano, with a combined 44 points , showed determination and sparked KAAU in the 4th quarter to tie the game at 56-all and force overtime.

KAAU’s stingy defense limited Subway to only 4 points while KAAU scored 12 points in the extra period and won the game. Cabrera top-scored for Subway with a game-high 32 point but only had two points and one free-throw in overtime with Bantog scoring the other freebie.

In another game, Jeddah Lions dominated Bhara Cables in their 81-73 victory. The win kept Jeddah Lions in contention for a spot in the semis. Salazar, Eusebio and Peter finished the game with 17, 9 and 13 points.

Bhara Cables tried its best to get the lead from Jeddah Lions but then it lacked the hands to do the job. Abatayo and Gerong led Bhara Cables with a combined 30 points.

The last Friday morning game between Toyota and Jamjoom Pharma was a knockout game in the semis and the latter was unexpected to win.

However, at the 3rd and 4th quarters of the game, Jamjoom Pharma showed Toyota its defense and team work which resulted in a turnaround of the game. For almost all of three quarters Toyota was in control.

It was in the last minute of the 3rd period that Jamjoom Pharma’s defense and team work took hold.

Abella, the team captain of Jamjoom, fouled out but Defensor picked up the slack and showed his power in rebound and defense against the Toyota’s twin tower of Gadingan and Fadi Tawil. Abulencia scored back-to-back points.

In the 4th quarter, Jamjoom Pharma took over as Toyota could only score 10 points. Abulencia finished on 30 points, while Gemino and Defensor shared 14 points each in Jamjoom’s 79-67 victory. Paul Taguba, who went scoreless in the entire 3rd quarter, led Toyota with 22 points.

In Above 40 Division, Wasalak defeated Libutan 89-80. Morales and Garcia led Wasalak while Tamir and Garcia led scorers for Libutan. Libutan tied the score in the 2nd quarter but its defense collapsed in the last two quarters to open the way for Wasalak’s win.
