Third-seeded Kabayan Food won all of its matches in the stepladder final including two against No. 1 Boleros to capture the title in the Sarawat Superstores Thursday Bowling League 9th Season at the Sultanah Center’s Bowling City here.

After taking down Bowling City and D’ Barkads in succession Kabayan Food lined itself up for the championship match against the waiting No. 1 finalist Boleros with a twice-to-beat privilege.

No problem. Kabayan proved it was up to the task with a roster of players that seemed to complement each other.

With Eidris Mangoda shooting 223 to go with the 178 and 174 by Gerry Mandanas and Igna Salgado and a pair of 162s by Paolo Allego and Rene Martinez, Kabayan easily won the first game against Boleros 932-886.

Boleros never recovered from that debacle, completely falling apart in the winner-take-all game that ended 939-865 to the eventual champions.

Mangoda and Allego stood out with games of 213 and 203 while Rene Martinez added 169, Salgado168 and Mandanas 153 for Kabayan.

Boleros failed to buy a single 200-game in the match vs. Kabayan with a second game 181 by Elo Manalo the highest on their scoresheet.

The first match of the stepladder was a sudden death among the Nos. 4, 5 and 6 teams namely Bowling City, Habagat and OFBC.

Bowling City, with a score of 890 to Habagat’s 842 and OFBC’s 836, won to advance to the second match opposite Kabayan Food, that ended 1,006-962 to Kabayan.

The second-seeded D’ Barkads were the next to fall to the rampaging Kabayan 1,059-968 in the match prior to the championship clash.

The Thursday League 10th Season is set to open with today, according to league organizer Igna Salgado.
