Tommy Kamal used his handicap to the max to be second finisher in the semifinals then bowled three superb final games to emerge the eventual men’s champion, while Lani Zamora paced as close as she can to No. 1 then pushed harder during the ultimate game to overtake the leader and win the ladies title in the FEDBG Anniversary Bowlfest 2013 at the Bowling City here.

Kamal qualified No. 8 with total 15-game series of 3288. Top two qualifiers in CDE were Richard Antonio and Jimmy Mandingiado who made the finals with their 3606 and 3550 totals respectively. The top qualifier from OAB was Melvin Lising who also went direct to finals to finals with 4087 along with Zaldy Bacero who posted 3905 for the second seed.

The semifinals was seen a well fought match with Kamal keeping second place behind Med Ramos after Game 1 then second also to Melo Amano after games 2 and 3. Ramos recovered in game 4 to finish top, but Kamal was stuck on second while Amano and Frank Afurong were third and fourth to join Antonio and Mandingiado in finals. Surviving the group OAB were Rudy Valenzuela, Emil Payongayong, Ernie Geslani and Macelo Manalo.

In the finals, Kamal took an early lead with 246 to the 231 by Valenzuela with Lising on 214, Mandingiado 214, Ramos 208 and Antonio 202. Kamal almost locked the title with his 221 follow up for 467 running total. With only Bacero exploding with 227 the nearest threat was at 422 as Mandingiado, Lising, Manalo and Antonio were far at 413, 410, 402 and 401 in that order. Antonio then geared for his best chase at 249 but Kamal protected his lead with 206 to secure his first title with 3-game series of 673. Antonio settled for second on 650. Mandingiado kept third spot with 640 while Lising (614) and Bacero (604) took fourth and fifth positions.

In the ladies division, Alma Bacero finished the semifinals at No. 1 on 792, neophyte Zamora followed with 781 and surviving the last berth was Grace Funtilon on 731. Eliminated were Mariz Resano, Ester Santoc, Fatima Jintarat, Eloisa Fernandez and Aileen Miralbuna. These three survivors joined top qualifier May Lourdes (3397) and second qualifier Sally Sanosa (3391).

The initial salvo Lourdes in the lead with 225, four marks away from Zamora who paced 185 followed by Sanosa (184), Bacero (159) and Funtilon (147). Lourdes kept top post with 423 on 198 follow up. Zamora inched to 23 pins at 402 after a 207 and Funtilon carded 226 to be in third with 373 in game 2. The ultimate game then decided it all when Zamora loaded 211 to take home her first bowling crown with 3-game totals of 613 pushing Lourdes to second with 594 on 171 endgame. Funtilon kept third place with 524, while Bacero and Sanosa finished fourth and fifth at 517 and 469.
