JEDDAH: The durable Kane, with more than two decades of professional wrestling under his belt, is excited about his coming trip to the Kingdom to again entertain his legions of fans in this part of the WWE world.
American Kane, born Glenn Thomas Jacobs on April 26, 1967, is in the lineup of wrestling stars that will pit skills during the WWE Live in Riyadh Nov. 3 and 4 at the Green Hall Stadium in Diriyah on the outskirts of the Saudi capital.
Speaking to Arab News in an interview from the United States, Kane said next month’s event will be his second time in Saudi Arabia.
“We were here in Riyadh, I believe. Well, I think I would get excited. We had a great time last time we were there. Saudi Arabian fans support us wonderfully,” said Jacobs, best known by his ring name Kane, who wrestled in promotions such as Smoky Mountain Wrestling (SMW) and the United States Wrestling Association (USWA) before joining the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE) in 1995.
In the leadup to WWE Live in Riyadh, the massively built Kane is keeping a light schedule that sees him wrestle every week in Reno, Nevada, and nothing special in regard to preparation for the WWE’s Middle East swing.
“For what they had to take I belong in the ride. I mean that I gonna get a workout before the show. That’s been the nature for me,” Kane said.
A 25-year veteran in the business of grappling and throwing, Kane has won, according to Wikipedia, 18 total championships during his WWF/E career, including being a three-time world champion (having held the WWF Championship, ECW Championship, and WWE's World Heavyweight Championship once each). He was a 12-time world tag team champion, having held the WWF/E (World) Tag Team Championship, WCW Tag Team Championship, and WWE Tag Team Championships with various partners. He is also a two-time WWE Intercontinental Champion and a 2010 Money in the Bank winner. Kane is the third man to win the WWE Grand Slam. Kane also holds the all-time record of eliminations at Royal Rumble with 44 eliminations.
To have lasted this long with the longest tenure with WWE, Kane shares he is fortunate not having been injured.
“My career… it’s been pretty long. There are wrestlers with a flair for multidecades career while others don’t last that long. It varies a lot. It all depends on a lot of factors,” Kane said.
Although Kane has dabbled in football and basketball it’s a no-brainer why he ended up a professional wrestler.
“As a child, I met the folks and from there basically, you know, growing up I watched the sport of my life I would like to do,” he said.
On the second day of WWE Live in Riyadh, Kane, who said he doesn’t have pre-fight quirks like others do except that “I do put my left boot on first. And I don’t know why,” will be up against Baron Corbin.
“ Have done matches with Baron a little bit. He’s a young guy, it will be a good match,” Kane added.
In closing, the 7-foot masked American wrestler who resides at Dandridge, Tennessee, said: “Were all excited to be back in Saudi Arabia where fans are great. Looking forward to it.”
