JEDDAH: Team Kapuso inflicted a heart-breaking loss to Team Kapamilya with back-to-back wins in the best-of-three tennis tournament, at the King Abdulaziz University Sports Complex.

Beaten in the first round, Team Kapuso came out from the brink to win the second round, draw level with and survived a scare by overcoming an overall 10-point deficit with 61 total points over 51 from the match-ups of nine different doubles.

The team rubber match in the third round, saw the devastating firepower of the Kapuso, that all but two of the match-up doubles went their way in runaway fashion.

The ninth double match-up was rendered moot and academic as the competition came into conclusion with 57 – 47 total points in favor of Kapuso even if Kapamilya’s Fred Masangkay /Boy Isuga would win the 8 points credit in ninth double against Kapuso’s Celso Abella and Norwin Catipay.

The tandems of Kapamilya’s Julius Garcia/ Zaldy Gabriel and Peter Abou Toumo/Fernan Fermin registered significant resistance with 8-3 and 8-6 wins respectively over Kapuso’s Leo Milarion/Mashur Jamiri and Vic Rebong/Nilo Gamba.

But Kapuso’s Roman Alcantara/Mike Amerol led the merciless charge versus Ica Lovitos/JM Bravo with 8-1 victory, and the rest of the Kapuso doubles joined the fray with thunderous wins: Bernie Soguilon/Gary Bautro against Cesar Quilenderino/Jun Tomas, 8-6; Romeo Poras/Waymour Carmelotes over Marlon Pagsanjan/Romy Sora, 8-5; Rolly Bautista/Rolly Saldana versus Roy Timtiman/Mario Betorio, 8-4; Ali Callanta/Arnold Tambalo against Sherwin Narvais/Clark Maldo, 8-3; Rick Maulion/Yusuf Adriatico versus Nasser Cayquep/Ariel Domingo, 8-7.
