An early meeting between Inter-Company Division A finalists last conference highlighted the second week of action that went full blast with five games each Thursday and Friday in the Microsoft Lumia & 36th FBA Basketball Tournament at the Sheraton Jeddah Hotel court.

KIA Motors got a measure of revenge but needed two overtime periods to get it done in a 91-85 victory over Al Saadi in a rematch of their final match won by the latter that played then under the colors of Sequoia.

KIA’s Jay Liam proved a big headache for his former team, top-scoring with 28 points and along with Butch Maulana, who had 22 points, were named Best Players of the game. The duo teamed with Cutamora in giving KIA a big lift in the second overtime. The regulation period ended 71-all and first overtime 82-82.

Big man Santiago added 9 points, Greason 8 and Cutamora 6 for KIA whose former coach, Rene Valle, was on opposite bench calling the shots for Saadi team managed by Jimmy Abdullah Beltran.

Veteran guard Yoyong Akmad led Saadi with 25 points, Diego Domalogdog added 15, Malik Ampuan had 14 and Mark Lagria tallied 13 points.

The second week got going with Westside-Beesline beating Saudi Diyar 75-74 in an Inter-Company Group D thriller in the first game Thursday. Reyes tossed in 30 points at the head of Westside, Encabo added 13 points while Destreza and Pacaige each sored 9 points.

In the same group, Freyssinet defeated Ami Pioneer 75-70 with Suguitan and Dollero leading the way with 37 and 20 points.

Thursday’s third game between KIA-Saadi was easily the headline game of the week.

While Saadi tripped up to open its title defense Francis Magat’s Uncle Majid Rice & Toppings, the defending Inter-Hotel & Restaurant Division champion, had no such problem, beating Jeddah Hilton Hotel 86-77 in the fourth game Friday. Ron Magat was named Best Player of the game with 20 points for Uncle Majid. His brother Noy had 22 points, Ismael Kursit contributed 13 and Reyes had 10 points.

In a pair of Inter-Commercial Open Non-Rated Division games, last conference first runner-up Jeddah United suffered a heavy 60-46 defeat at the hands of Lifestyle while Abdul Latif-Jameel CDC brought down Maharlikans 92-78 with Barry Nader as the Best Player of the game.

Nader finished the night with 27 points, Liam made 16 points and Lagria compiled 14 points.

In the other game Thursday, Almabani hammered out an 87-78 victory over Bindawood in the Inter-Company B. The top scorers for Almabani were Visda 21, Meting 18, Tuazon 12 and Panganiban 12.

Elsewhere, JCF defeated McVities 64-52 in Inter-Company D, Junbarkads downed Rainbow Milk 71-56 in Inter-Company C and Sadia, among the new teams to join FBA organized events, defeated Panda 60-51 in Inter-Company B.

Microsoft Lumia is the major sponsor of the tournament organized in partnership with Team-Up Event Management headed by Mustafa Al-Saady and Rashad Barmada.
