MUNICH, Germany: Two-time former champion Philipp Kohlschreiber advanced to the BMW Open quarterfinals on Wednesday. The fifth seed, who triumphed in 2007 and 2012, knocked out fellow German Alexander Zverev 6-2, 6-4 in 63 minutes. Zverev, 18, is the youngest of eight teenagers in the Top 200 of the Emirates ATP Rankings.

Kohlschreiber’s will next clash with fourth seed David Goffin, who battled Simone Bolelli to reach the quarter-finals with a 7-6(5), 6-7(4), 6-1 win in two hours and 15 minutes. The Belgian World No. 21 saved three of the four break points faced to set a third meeting with the German.

Third seed Roberto Bautista Agut saved all four break points he faced and hit six aces in a 6-0, 6-3 victory over former World No. 8 Radek Stepanek in 63 minutes. He advances to his fourth ATP World Tour quarterfinal of the year. Stepanek was playing his first tour-level event since the 2014 US Open.

Bautista Agut goes on to challenge Victor Estrella Burgos, who saved one break point at 5-5 in the third set en route to a 6-4, 6-7(1), 7-5 win over wild card Janko Tipsarevic.

Pablo Andujar, last week’s Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell finalist, withstood 11 aces to beat Joao Souza 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 34 minutes. He will next face qualifier Gerald Melzer in the second round.

Almagro stuns Mayer

In Estoril, Portugal, Former World No. 9 Nicolas Almagro ousted fourth seed Leonardo Mayer 7-6(4), 6-2 in the first match of the day on Wednesday at the Millennium Estoril Open.

The Spaniard, who now has a career 252-121 clay court record, fired seven aces in the 89-minute victory.

The 12-time ATP World Tour titlist improved his FedEx ATP Head2Head record over the Argentine to 3-0. Almagro awaits the winner of fifth seed Richard Gasquet and Kenny de Schepper in the quarterfinals.

Second seeds Treat Huey and Scott Lipsky were the first team to reach the semifinals in Estoril, notching a 6-1, 6-2 win over Pablo Carreno Busta and Alejandro Gonzalez.

Top seeds Marc Lopez and David Marrero reached the quarterfinals after defeating home hopes Rui Machado and Frederico Ferreira Silva 7-6(5), 7-5.

Third seeds Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Max Mirnyi beat Gero Kretschmer and Alexander Satschko 4-6, 6-4, 10-4 to reach the quarterfinals
