WUHAN, China: Petra Kvitova and Eugenie Bouchard will play a rematch of their Wimbledon final when they meet in the climax of the $2.4 million WTA Wuhan Open after winning their semifinals Friday.

World No.3 Kvitova is vying for her third title of the year and will seal a place in the end of season championships in Singapore if she wins the final of the inaugural tournament.

The Czech advanced in the semis at the expense of Elina Svitolina, who put in another feisty performance, which defied her lowly 34th place in the rankings.

Kvitova will join the top eight players for the Singapore finale if she wins in Wuhan. Those who have already made it to the WTA Finals include world No.1 Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova (4) and Simona Halep (2).

The 24-year-old will meet world No.9 Bouchard in Wuhan for a replay of their Wimbledon final, which Kvitova won convincingly 6-3, 6-0.

Kvitova has also won in New Haven last month, her second title of the 2013 season.

Canadian Bouchard, the sixth seed in Wuhan, beat eighth-seeded Wozniacki in their semifinal match 6-2, 6-3.

Both players — who are also chasing points to make the WTA Finals — played an aggressive game.

Wozniacki appeared to have sustained a minor hamstring injury which she received treatment for in the fourth game of the second set.

The first break point of the set came two games later, which Bouchard survived, and the Canadian then broke Wozniacki to make it 4-3 before going on to clinch the match.

The Wuhan Open, in the central province of Hubei features the world’s top 20 women players, with the exception of recently-retired local hero Li Na.

Murray in last four

In Shenzhen, China, Andy Murray reached the last four of the ATP Shenzhen Open Friday, as he chases points to make November’s ATP World Tour Finals in London.

The British second seed in Shenzhen defeated Slovak Lukas Lacko in his quarterfinal match, and is in a good position in the tournament after top seeds David Gasquet and David Ferrer both crashed out.

Third seed Gasquet of France was dumped out in his quarterfinal match by Juan Manaco of Argentina, who will face Murray in the last four.

Spanish top seed Ferrer had lost to Viktor Troicki in the previous round, and the Serb crashed out in his quarter-final match Friday, losing 7-6 (8/6), 6-3 to Santiago Giraldo.

The sixth seed Columbian will face Tommy Robredo in his semifinal match after he beat Andreas Seppi of Italy 6-4, 6-7 (5/7), 6-3.

Murray is ranked 11th in the world and needs to pick up points to make the season’s finale in London in which the top eight players compete.

He is scheduled to play in the China Open in Beijing and the Shanghai Masters following Shenzhen.

Nishikori in semis

Kei Nishikori outclassed Australia’s Marinko Matosevic 6-3, 6-0 in little more than an hour to reach the semifinals of the Malaysian Open on Friday.

The US Open runner-up sprayed winners past the big-serving Matosevic to book a last four clash with Finnish veteran Jarkko Nieminen who eased past seventh seed Pablo Andujar.

In the bottom half of the draw Ernests Gulbis, who already has two titles this year, beat Germany’s Benjamin Becker and will face fourth-seeded Frenchman Julien Benneteau.

“Today was much better,” second seed Gulbis said after his 6-3, 7-5 victory. “When I broke him in the second set, I played three unbelievable points. I’m finding my game.”

Nishikori remains the favorite, however, after a dazzling performance against Matosevic. Already sixth in the ATP Race standings for the eight-man season-ender in London in November, the Japanese player can seriously boost his chances of a debut appearance if he goes on to take the title in Kuala Lumpur.
