True to its mandate, the new bowling group in the block — OFBC— mounted another tournament for the benefit of its members the great majority of whom are beginning bowlers.

The Overseas Filipino Bowlers Club inserted the 1st Haj All Events Goodwill Games to its league schedule at the IN-10-SO lanes with rookie bowler Tom Langa and Fedelyn Bustinera winning titles in the centerpiece Masters event.

The whole day tournament attracted 50 players including those from Yanbu and Khamis Mushayt and 10 teams of five members each that were selected on the basis of the players’ drawn lane assignments regardless of classification.

Prizes in seven events including the men’s and ladies singles and Masters went up for grabs in the fun-filled eight games sudden death format competition sponsored by Makatifoods (Bob Stone), Petromin Express (Jerry Carredo), Arabian Homes (David Wheen and Roger Ayeras), Aecom (Rudy Jamon) and Fatima and Tam Jintarat.

Langa carded total pinfalls with handicap of 608 to win the men’s Masters title ahead of Edison Arenas and lefty Ryan Okol who settled for first runner-up and second runner-up on 594 and 592 respectively.

Bustinera also was a decisive winner in the ladies Masters, shooting 563 to Akang Victorino’s 539 with Yanbu-based Len-len Berina second runner-up on 532.

After also winning the ladies singles crown Fedelyn made the tournament into a family affair when she teamed with husband Khalid and Boyang Reyes of Khamis Mushayt for the trio event title on 1,808 pinfalls. Nelson Hofer, Berina and Conrad Baltazar wound up a distant first runner-up on 1,625 with OFBC Commissioner Joel Nidoy, Max Salang and Fatima Jintarat second runner-up on 1,615.

Khalid also had one individual victory after he beat Ric Reformado for the men’s singles title 1,263 to 1,167 pinfalls, while Conrad Baltazar took third place on 1,119.

The first event decided based on the scores for the first three games was the doubles won by the Yanbu-Khamis pair of Gary Raymundo and Joey Domingo on 1,122. Ten pins adrift in first runner-up position were Jerry Carredo and Ruben Griño who combined for 1,112 while the Khamis Mushayt tandem of Clemen San Felipe and Gerald Carloto rounded out the first three winners on 1,103.

Winning the team event, from scores for games 3, 4, 5 and 6, was the quintet of Joey Calapatia, Hofer, Okol, Berina and Baltazar on 3,590 pinfalls. First runner-up was the team of San Felipe, Carloto, Langa, Evelyn Santoc and Victorino who posted 3,482 to win by a pin from the team of Nidoy, Salang, Stone, Fatima Jintarat and Margie Villasanta.

The event concluded with an awarding ceremony in the evening.

The OFBC was formed mainly to provide beginning bowlers access to tournaments without prejudice to other players of different skill levels.
