JEDDAH: Inspired by the success of the First Conference, the Kalayaan Volleyball Cup served up its 2nd Conference last Friday at the Trio Ranch & Country Club.
To run for five weekends, the tournament attracted six men’s teams representing companies and community groups that will vie for prizes.
Consul Rodney Jonals Lucido Sumague graced the opening ceremony as chief guest on behalf of Consul General Imelda Panolong of the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah. The other VIP guests present on the occasion were Emirates’ Account Manager Juan L. Ramos, SMDC’ Allan Murillo Castillo, OSN Executive Alex Cinco Sales, Virgin Mobile Marketing Specialist Zoriel Gaffud and representatives from Lulu Hypermart including Hasees, the regional manager and Lito Salvador from TOYA.
Joan Godoy and her team, Jeddah United Hitters, swept the first trophies to go up for grabs on opening day. Godoy was awarded Best Team Representative. United Hitters won special awards for Best in Uniform and Best Organized Team.
To spice up the evening, Zaidoz- Xyndrome Group headed by Loui Curias rendered a special dance number.
The 6 teams entered are: All Filipino Virgin Mobile Spikers, King Abdulaziz Medical City Hospital, Jeddah Blue Spikers, Jeddah United Hitters, IPSJ Wild Cats and Play Time.
Three games were played last Friday. All Filipino Virgin Mobile Spikers scored a straight sets 25-7, 25-3 victory over IPSJ Wild Cats in the first game. Jeddah United Hitters brought down Jeddah Blue Spikers 25-9, 25-19 in the second game while Virgin Mobile Spikers emerged straight away winner in match against KAMC 25-19, 25-21 in the nightcap.
The three best players of the game to receive gift packs courtesy of OSN and Emirates were Antony Pacurib #16 (Virgin Mobile Spikers), John Patrick D. Cupcupin#5 (Jeddah United Hitters) and Anthony Paul Varquez#12 (Virgin Mobile Spikers). Over 15 raffle draws was claimed from our sponsor for guest and participant was done.

Lagrimas, technical adviser; Ernie Apollo, operations officer; Cesar Ramirez , layout artist; Edgar Zantua, logistics officer, and Harold Amper , tournament commissioner. Alex Sales is the group adviser. The official caterer is Kusina ni Juday. Fred Garces and FAME Chairman Jhun Abris emceed the event.
