RIYADH: The first 25-mile Time Trial of the New Year was held on probably the coldest day of the winter, with those who did ride needing to wrap up warmly.

A cold wind also played into the equation, which may have kept some members away, so before the start the consensus on the start line was that this was not going to be a day for fast times.

Thierry Mathy and Kris Ahlin did not take this into consideration however, and produced two blistering rides, which put them in a league of their own by being the only riders to break the hour barrier. This season Pinoy sensation, Geron Guanlao, rode a new TT bike for the first time and was one of the few to produce a PB, impressively taking the scalps of Norberto Daa and Jiri Kuba in the process. These 5 were well ahead of the rest of the field who were having a close scrap for 6th place, with Rob Patrick just able to keep an injury free Stu Gillespie and David Pottinger at bay. Consistent George Morete was off the pace in 9th and admitted he suffered more than usual in the cold conditions. Gaining more points in the Category B Championship race was Maria Araujo, who now looks to have this competition wrapped up.
