Evolving from the event previously known as the Riyadh Wheelers 2-Day, the Carrefour Tala Mall 3 Stage Race proved a popular formula for all those who participated.

The formula consisted of a criterium first stage which was quickly followed by a 5km time trail and concluded with a 32km road race. With little time between stages to recover, the riders had to call on all their reserves and were in no doubt helped by the superb selection of refreshments provided by Carrefour Tala Mall, whose senior management were on hand to present the prizes.

Proving once again that he is a true champion, Thierry Mathy took all three stages, using his powerful sprint plus his renowned time trialling ability to keep a clean slate. The expected challenge from Kris Ahlin did not materialize as Ahlin slipped back in the third stage allowing the powerful and consistent Steve Jenkins to take a fine second.

Ahlin reckoned he had done too much work in the previous stages and had nothing left for the sprint in the third. Other notable performances were put on by Greg Donaghey , who used his road racing experience to good effect, last race’s revelation Mikael Jersby, who continued to impress and came in for a fine 5th, just ahead of first senior Rob Patrick, and master, David Pottinger.

Dave Wright was the first open category rider who dropped back in the time trial riding a conventional machine.

Cat B went to Maria Araujo who put some distance between herself and current champion Vero Mathy.
