COLUMBUS, Ohio: Ohio State’s 23-game winning streak ended Saturday, beaten on their home field when Michigan State’s Michael Geiger kicked a 41-yard field goal as time expired to give the Spartans a 17-14 victory.

The Buckeyes were not the only previously unbeaten team to lose at home, as Oklahoma State was beaten 45-35 by Baylor, while rival Oklahoma narrowly avoided a home defeat, surviving a late rally by Texas Christian to win 30-29.

Michigan State’s surprise victory saw the Spartans take control of the Big Ten East conference, jump into the thick of the College Football Playoff race and very likely end Ohio State’s chances to repeat as national champions.

The Buckeyes managed just 132 yards against a rugged defense and lost for the first time to a Big Ten team in the regular season since Urban Meyer became coach four seasons ago.

Missing injured quarterback Connor Cook, Michigan State completed just one pass in the second half, but they gave Geiger a chance to win it with 3 seconds left and he delivered.

Baylor’s backup quarterback Chris Johnson threw two touchdown passes and ran for a score, and the Bears won at Oklahoma State.

Baylor remained in the mix for the Big 12 conference title, while Oklahoma State likely is out of playoff conversation.

Baylor quarterback Jarrett Stidham took several hard hits in the first half and did not play after the break but the Bears still gained 700 yards. K.D. Cannon caught five passes for 210 yards.

Mason Rudolph passed for 430 yards and three touchdowns for the Cowboys.

Their state rival Oklahoma held on to edge TCU when Steven Parker batted away a 2-point conversion pass attempt with less than a minute left.

Down 30-13 in the fourth quarter, TCU got within a point on Bram Kohlhausen’s 14-yard touchdown pass to Emanuel Porter with 51 seconds remaining. Instead of taking the kick to tie the score and likely send the game to overtime, the Horned Frogs went for the win by attempting the 2-point conversion, but were turned away by Parker.

Oklahoma’s Samaje Perine ran for 188 yards and a touchdown and Baker Mayfield completed 9 of 20 passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns before leaving with an apparent head injury after the first half.

Top-ranked Clemson passed 500 yards of offense for the seventh straight game and recorded a comfortable 33-13 win against Wake Forest.

Deshaun Watson threw three touchdown passes and ran for a another score as the Tigers completed an 8-0 Atlantic Coast Conference season, notched their 14th straight victory dating back to last season and the 700th victory in team history.

Alabama’s Cyrus Jones returned two punts for touchdowns and Derrick Henry also scored twice in the Crimson Tide’s 56-6 romp over Charleston Southern.

Alabama eased off after leading 49-0 at halftime, perhaps with one eye on next week’s game against Auburn when they could clinch the Southeast Conference West title.

Notre Dame turned the ball over five times but still pulled off a 19-16 win against Boston College in a game played at baseball’s famous Fenway Park.

DeShone Kizer threw for two touchdowns — and three interceptions — and the Fighting Irish won their sixth straight game.

Boston college got within three points with 54 seconds left and attempted an onside kick, but Notre Dame safety Matthias Farley got to the ball first.

Iowa wrapped up the Big Ten West title and a spot in the conference championship game by defeating Purdue 40-20.

C.J. Beathard threw three touchdown passes and LeShun Daniels Jr. ran for two TDs for the Hawkeyes, who will play at Nebraska next week in search of their first 12-0 regular season.

Florida’s Treon Harris threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Jake McGee in overtime to give the Gators a 20-14 win against modest local rival Florida Atlantic.

The Gators were favored by more than 30 points in line betting, but were sluggish the whole game.

The Owls had a chance to pull off the huge upset when they had a first-and-goal at Florida’s 9-yard-line but a sack and three interceptions ended the threat.
