RIYADH: After two weeks, the MoneyGram Cricket Ke Badshah tournament has brought joy and excitement to the workers in BACS, Al-Seif and Saudi Oger camps in Riyadh.
“We are grateful to MoneyGram for giving us an opportunity to win cash prizes and meet the legendary cricket player Irfan Pathan for the first time ever. There is a huge passion for cricket in our camps from all our nationalities and it is a major part of our life here at weekends,” said Pankaj Gawande, a HSE specialist from BACS Camp who manages all cricket activities in that camp.
“We play cricket most evenings and every weekend but never had an opportunity to showcase our skills within a professional tournament that MoneyGram had brought to all our players and the people of BACS Camp.”
MoneyGram has designed this tournament to give the players an opportunity to play the game they love, far away from home.
MoneyGram wanted to give something back to all those nationalities that are living in the Kingdom away from their families.
With two other camps also playing in the tournament, it makes it even more exciting that we will have the best teams from these camps competing for the honor to be crowned as Champions of Labour Camps in Riyadh.
During this week’s competition, we had some great individual performances on the field. Muhammed Khan scored 44 runs from 15 balls to guide ‘Warriors’ to victory and Adnan Maqbool took 5-12 for the same team. With only a week left of the qualifying tournament, the best teams are now battling out to win the right to represent their camps in the Grand Finals.
MoneyGram Cricket Ke Badshah tournament matches will be 20 overs-per-side ‘Twenty20’ and running qualifiers through June 1. The grand finals will be held today June 3 at the BACS Camp, where the best teams representing Al Seif and Saudi Oger camps and two teams from BACS will playoff to be champions of Riyadh, witnessed by Irfan Pathan.
Pathan will hand over the trophy and SAR 10,000 cash prize to the winning team.
MoneyGram is the only ICC sponsor to activate cricket in Saudi Arabia and support the Labour Camps.
