JEDDAH: New comers Kitaykit got off to a flying start on the opening day of the Afternoon Summer League when the surprised favorites Old Students by 8 wickets in the Jeddah Cricket Club organized tourney here.

In the other matches, ICAD got the better of Peeran XI by 6 wickets while Jamco beat Munch Bakery by 31 runs.

Seven teams are taking part in this double leg round robin league-cum-knockout tournament.

Holders, Old Students put on board 167 for 6, which Kitaykit overcame for the loss of 2 wickets and 2 overs to spare.

For Old Students Sajjad Butt was the highest scorer with an unbeaten 55 runs while Omar got 36. Sarfaraz and Naseem bagged 2 wickets each.

In reply Kitaykit rattled the required runs for the loss of 2 wickets and scored 169. Opener Salim notched up 38 runs while Mudassir contributed a stylish and aggressive unbeaten 52. Sarfaraz later gave the finishing touches and remained not out on 33.

Elsewhere, Peeran XI batted first and posted 158 for 8 from their allotted overs. Fahad top-scored with 49 followed by Nazim’s 27. Imran claimed 4 for 25.

ICAD was provided a sound start by Mohsin (41) and Irfan (25). Later, Akhtar (37), Navas (19), Shakeel (12 not out) enabled ICAD to reach 159 for 6 with 2 overs to spare. Saher claimed 2 for 19.

In another match, Jamco batted first plundered 207 for 8 and later restricted Munch Bakery to 166 runs. For Jamco the main scorers were Arsalan 56, Faisal (40), Atif (27) and Mubashir (27)

Rana Shahzad had 3 for 36 runs while Abdul Rauf took 2 for 37. In reply Munch Bakery batsmen did not live up to their expectation. Except Rehan (54) no other batsman stayed long enough to make a match of it and folded for 166 runs. Faisal had 2 for 37 runs.
