WACO, Texas: Oklahoma ended Baylor’s 20-game home winning streak in college football with a 44-34 victory on Saturday, with wide receiver Sterling Shepard having 14 catches for 177 yards and two touchdowns for the Sooners.

The victory was a major blow to the Bears’ playoff chances. They were sixth in the latest College Football Playoffs ranking, with the toughest part of their schedule to come.

In other results, Texas Christian overcame the early loss of quarterback Trevone Boykin to injury and narrowly beat Kansas, Michigan had a double-overtime victory against Indiana to keep alive its Big Ten conference title hopes, and No.1-ranked Clemson improved to 10-0 by beating Syracuse.

Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield completed 24 of 34 passes for 270 yards and three touchdowns and ran for a score to help the team gain control of its destiny in the Big 12. The Sooners have won five straight since a disappointing loss to Texas.

Baylor will certainly drop further in the playoff rankings before playing at unbeaten Oklahoma State next Saturday.

Texas Christian edged Kansas 23-17 despite Boykin departing with an ankle injury on his second play of the game.

Boykin turned awkwardly on his right ankle as he slipped while trying to cut and was tackled. College football’s total offense leader didn’t return after getting sacked on TCU’s last offensive play of the first quarter.

The Horned Frogs were also without top receiver Josh Doctson, who was limited by a left arm and wrist injury from last week’s loss that likely eliminated them from the national title race.

Kansas was competitive but couldn’t avoid a 35th straight road loss and 13th successive defeat overall.

Michigan held off Indiana to win 48-41 in a contest that would have gone to triple overtime if Mitchell Paige had not bobbled a fourth-down pass at the goal line.

Michigan quarterback Jake Rudock forced overtime with a touchdown pass with 2 seconds left, and threw two more on back-to-back plays to lead the Wolverines. Rudock finished 33 of 46 with 440 yards and six touchdowns, and Jehu Chesson, caught 10 passes for 207 yards and four scores.

Clemson beat Syracuse 37-27 to improve to 10-0 for the first time since the Tigers won their only national championship back in 1981.

Quarterback DeShaun Watson had a big day with two touchdown passes and 101 yards rushing and a score for Clemson.

Ohio State shook off a slow start to win 28-3 at Illinois and also go to a 10-0 record.

Ezekiel Elliott ran for 181 yards and two touchdowns for the Buckeyes, who led 7-3 for much of the first half before Elliott picked up the pace. Elliott accounted for 50 of the Buckeyes’ 75 yards on a third quarter drive that opened a 21-3 lead.

Alabama had a comfortable 31-6 win against Mississippi State in the Crimson Tide’s last major test before facing Auburn in the Iron Bowl game in two weeks.

Derrick Henry ran for 204 yards and two touchdowns for Alabama, which broke clear with three long touchdowns in the second quarter, starting with a 69-yard punt return by Cyrus Jones.

Mississippi State lost to the Tide for the eighth straight season.

Oklahoma State remained in playoff contention with a 35-31 win against Iowa State.

Backup quarterback J.W. Walsh threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Jeff Carr with 3:06 left for the Cowboys, whose unbeaten record looked to be over when they trailed 24-7 before rallying for a critical win.

Notre Dame’s Josh Adams scored on a 98-yard run — the longest scoring play from scrimmage in team history — as the Fighting Irish defeated Wake Forest 28-7.

Adams, who was the fourth-choice running back during preseason, started the game and ran for 141 yards for his second straight game in double figures.

Defensive end Andrew Trumbetti scored on a 28-yard interception return for Notre Dame.

Stanford’s playoff hopes were spoiled by a 38-36 home-field defeat by Oregon, with the Ducks stopping a 2-point play that would have tied it.

Vernon Adams threw for 205 yards and two touchdowns for the Ducks, who kept their Pac-12 conference title hopes alive.

Iowa improved to 10-0 for the first time in its history with a 40-35 win against Minnesota.

LeShun Daniels ran for a career-high 195 yards and three touchdowns for the Hawkeyes, who can clinch the Big Ten West with a win over Purdue next week.

Louisiana State was eliminated from contention in the Southeastern Conference West after a 31-14 loss at home against a resurgent Arkansas.
