Team captain Zohair Oqilan flashed his deadly form to power Riyad Bank to a Team of the Week and Bowler of the Week double during the final matches of the first round in the Interbank Tenpin Bowlers of Riyadh (ITBR) league here.

Oqilan shot the high series of 857 pinfalls to emerge as the Bowler of the Week while powering Riyad Bank to victory over arch-rival Banque Saudi Fransi 409-183 and its third award. Ronald Cruz rolled 793, Sonny Alviso had 758 and Freddie Solomon 734 as the trio complemented Oqilan’s effort that helped their team dislodge BSF at second place in the team standings. Ric Singson tallied 547 in three games while James Frizzle had 168.

Captain Jun Bantug and Noel Morales top-scored in BSF by carding a series of 800 and 710. They were supported by AJ Bonifacio and Angel Diaz Jr. with 549 and 521 while Yusuf Fernandez, Dawood Sereno and Joseph Adao had 373, 346 and 315.

The second best performance of the week belonged to SAMA-Abana, which blanked defending champion Shabab SABB 390-0. Father-and-son tandem of Bernie and Koko Torres led their team to victory with 827 and 811 while Clem Guelas and Jun Macarandan added 764 and 696. Captain Teody Zulaybar and David Smart had 386 and 273.

Shabab SABB continued to suffer indifferent performance due to the absence of some players and slipped further down to fifth position. Arnold Jesena, however, offered some consolation when he posted the second highest scratch score of the league of 256 and became the second member of the Elite Bowlers Club. He tallied a four-game series of 826 while Jaffer Al-Khatiri and Gerry Austria had 726 and 709.

In another exciting match, Saudi Hollandi Bank continued its winning streak as it snatched another week from top performing team Alinma Bank 260-160. The trio of Arnel Bernabe, Rommer Calungcagin and Clem Salazar produced excellent performances to shoot 773, 743 and 734. Captain Greg Antonio and Gil Hembra rolled 538 and 503 while Val Baraquio and Cholo Nieto fired 182 and 155.

Alinma grabbed the third game at a perfect score of 130 points and 30 bonus points during the last game of the match and narrowly retained the top spot over RB and BSF. Jerry Barce, Angel Train and Abdulrahman Ahmed scored high on 785, 772 and 724. Rainier Torres and Willie Bondoc tallied 516 and 510 while Vic Agregado and Jojo de Silva made 180 and 148.

The match between BSF-CBG and SAIB ended in a draw at 210-180 points. Team captain Ken Hechanova leveled the game at 2-all with his tactful manpower maneuvering of his five-man team. Southpaw Abet Minosa led the way on 749 followed by Guilbert Masias 740, Alfred Estrada 717, Dennis Buot 707 and Hechanova 697.

SAIB captain Dong Calub led from the front on 785. The other scorers were Ed Robillos 710, Eddison Austria 668, Jonathan Avenido 660, Joey Salem 389 and Gil 298.

This week’s games will be the mid-positioning to determine the top placers after the first round. The tournament played Monday nights at its new venue Universal Bowling Center (UBC) in Riyadha is sponsored by all participating banks.
