JEDDAH: Pakistan Test cricket captain Misbah-ul-Haq unveiled the Saudi Cup jointly sponsored by Reel & Rom, UT Lines and organized by the Jeddah Cricket Association at a ceremony held recently. Twenty-seven teams are taking part in this tourney, divided into three groups.
Misbah thanked JCA for inviting him as chief guest and was surprised to see the huge Saudi Cup as he unveiled it. He urged captains of participating teams to give off their best for the passion of the game, which will make them succeed and open up roads they could never imagine. He wished the best of luck to the teams and hoped the best one win. He was happy to see the sport being organized and played in Jeddah, Madinah and other areas of Saudi Arabia. Being a Muslim he would love to visit Makkah, Madina in future and as a cricketer would support the cause of the game by taking time out of his professional season and come here to play cricket along with local cricketers.
Earlier in his speech Misbah said that there are three pillars of cricket – organizers, players and sponsors –sponsors are like petrol for the association and players, with their sponsorship they help the players enjoy the game which is a passion, motivation and driving force to play, perform and strive to give the very best.
In his early days he too was interested in playing day and night, traveling for miles all over the country just for the passion of the game before he played as a professional for Pakistan.

Merchant welcomed Reel & Rom’s Franke David as chief guest, Noor from UT Lines, Humayun Farooq, Samir Khan, Muhammad Iqbal, Aijaz Ahmed Khan, Hamid Rana, Haroon Abdullah, executive committee members, distinguished guests, captains of participating teams, umpires and the scorers of the Saudi Cup.
CEO Muhammad Iqbal briefed the audience on the salient features of the tourney. President Aijaz Ahmed Khan said it was an honor for JCA, to hosts Misbah-ul-Haq for the launching ceremony, who in the recent past organized a number of cricket stars from sub-continent including Saeed Anwar, Arshad Ayub, Mohammed Azharuddin, Inzimamul Haq, Abdul Rehman, Sohail Tanvir and Shahid Afridi.
The JCA had also organized a dress distribution ceremony for the team captains of the Saudi Cup at the Hala Cricket Academy. Each team received 14 T-shirts and caps.
