Two days of great basketball entertainment await basketball fans in Jeddah and around the western region during the Pasiklaban 2013 Champions Cup regional basketball event which kicks off Wednesday at the Ahmad Khaki Sports Complex (Orca) court on Tahlia Street here.

Organized by Liga Pinoy in cooperation with the WPBL, the much awaited exhibition games will feature two teams each from Riyadh and Jeddah and four Inter-Muslim squads out to fight each other not only for bragging rights but for tribal pride as well.

The Riyadh delegations are expected to arrive Tuesday, with Louie M. Mulles, looking to reprise victory in the last Beat the Best Eid Al Fitr exhibition and with a new 6-foot-2 recruit from Manila in tow to replace 6-foot-2 power forward Jamil Acraman, who was injured on the first day of the Beat the Best event.

Also back with the Lanao Leyte Papparottis, among others, are the Alcasabas brothers Raymond and Rommelle and Jayson Rex Dandoy, the fleet-footed guard who has won over the Jeddah basketball fans with his energetic style of play.

Riyadh All Star to be handled by Lito Villanueva will have the likes of Roel Ansay, Sherwin Garcia, Edward Pening, Hernandez, Cortez and two imports from Jubail including Tamayo.

Except for the 6-foot-8 Egyptian center Kaidar Hendawi, Samco-Marogong is fielding the same lineup that won the 2nd Prince Talal Mansour Abdulaziz Al Saud Ramadan Cup, meaning the Uncle Majid’s trio of Robby David, Ron Magat and Morsie Akad will reunite with Boyet Bautista and Co. as they try to keep the trophy from leaving town.

Samco top honcho Ramon Soriano along with Akmad Ontay and Seradj Abdulhamid is supporting this big event as does Francis Magat of Shadow Lounge and Uncle Majid’s restaurants.

Cris Melebo, who lost to Mulles in the Beat the Best, will be seeking redemption as his Friendster rounds out the two teams from Jeddah.

In the Inter-Muslim, where the championship trophy will be donated by Jimmy Abdullah Beltran, the Riyadh Selection will pit skills with Junaid Maguindanao, Baloi Maranao Selection and Hammadi Tausug Selection.

The opening day program starts with the parade of teams at 5 p.m. and Liga Pinoy Commissioner James Roxas is inviting basketball fans to come and enjoy the exciting games. He advised them to come early to get the best seats.
