JEDDAH: Centuries by Sarfaraz and Imran were the highlights of this week’s matches of the Jeddah Cricket Association sponsored Afternoon League. In the three matches played, Peeran XI edged past Peeran Warriors by 3 runs, Kitaykit got the better of Jamco by 11 runs while Munch Bakery scored a convincing 5 wicket win over Old Students.

Peeran XI batted first and hammered 201 for 6. Asim scored a brilliant 71 runs off 37 while Tariq (21) and Zaheer (20) were the others who chipped in with useful contributions. Rohail, Farzlam and Riaz had 2 wickets each for 23, 49 and 26 runs respectively.

In reply, Peeran Warriors never gave up and took the fight to the rival camp. However, they fell short of the target and managed 198 runs. Sarwar (30), Arsalan (47) got them off to a good start.

Later, Tayyab (41), Shahroz (20) and Awad (25) capitalized using the long handle. However, their effort was not good enough as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Karam of Peeran XI applied the brakes and took 2 for 23 runs.

In another match, Kitaykit put up 198 of 6. Sarfaraz led the charge single handedly with a superb 102 runs off 49 balls with 12 well-timed fours and 2 sixes. Saleem with 28 gave him good support to prop up the innings. Usama had 3 for 18.

Jamco gave a solid reply and appeared to be on track but were bowled out for 187 runs. Mubashir (20), Yousuf (28), Karam (24), Adil (20) and Naeem (19) were the main contributors. Rehan claimed 3 for 29 runs.

Elsewhere, Old Students put on board181 for 3. Imran played a splendid innings of 102 runs, which came off only 52 balls. He was well supported by Shahid (23) and Waqas (20). Abdul Rauf took 2 for 35.

In reply Munch Bakery made short work of the chase and knocked off the target of 182 for the loss of 5 wickets with one over to spare. Rehan led the way with a solid 52 followed by Mubashir (40), Zain ul Salekeen (22) and Nabeel (20), which ensured an easy win for their side. Abdul Rahman was the pic of the bowlers with 3 for 41.
