JEDDAH: Pin Crushers put on a strong performance and got their just reward when they clinched Team of the Week honors during the fifth session in the FTBJ-ICBL 34th Conference bowling tournament at Jeddah Lanes here.

On a day of fluctuating fortunes for contenders for the award Pin Crushers went all the way after a slow start winning the last two games and overall output to post the top tally of 36 points.

Purefoods Hotdog enjoyed its best week thus far to be in second place on the day with 34.5 points followed by JP Gilas 31.5, GM Pin Pals 28, D’ Frontiers 27 and Hidada Ltd. 26.

League leader Lucky Strike, fresh off its breakthrough Team of the Week award, had a modest outing on 22.5 points with defending champion Alliance in Motion on 21. Sky Freight Forwarders, D’ Barkads and Lance & 3rdy filled the last three spots on 15.5, 13 and 9 in that order.

In the individual races, Zaldy Bacero of JP Gilas claimed the men’s Bowler of the Week award and Purefoods’ Marie Gumpal the ladies Bowler of the Week plum. Bacero shot the high series of 658 on scratch lines of 235, 181 and 242 while Gumpal carded her division’s best score of 599 on games of 190, 149 and 188.

Pin Crushers got a big lift from the solid 637 from Edwin Ronquillo, while Alex Flora and Susan Patayan and Aileen Meralbuna, from the distaff side, complemented Ronquillo with 577, 562 and 559. Daryl Laquias 200-197 and Jay Bengco 179 rounded out the scoring for Pin Crushers.

Cesar Monares and team captain Igna Salgado bowled well, too, at Purefoods in addition to Gumpal. Monares came through with 615 and Salgado had 588. Joel Nidoy added a valuable 183-195 and Majid Aslani contributed 180.

Besides Bacero the others that helped Week 2 honoree JP Gilas to a third-place finish in the session were Paolo Allego 583, Lou Punzalan 570, Jeanette Cerbito 540, Rey Beltran 186-135 and Rene Punzalan 162.

At GM Pin Pals Richard Junio was the main point getter on 628 with chief support coming from Minda Guevarra on 589. Gerry Mandanas and Charrie Guzman rolled 551 and 549 as the two other players to go the distance. Jeff San Pedro compiled 164-179 and Efren San Pedro made 156.

First game winner D’ Frontiers had Tommy Kamal leading the scoring on 624 followed by Ric Antonio 570, Nato Gonzales 566, Grace Funtilon 551 and Nezar Mohd 544 in a single set five-man rotation.
