BOSTON: The Boston Red Sox, trying to revamp their batting lineup, have agreed deals with Major League Baseball free agent sluggers Hanley Ramirez and Pablo Sandoval, according to media reports Monday.

Agreements by the 2013 World Series winners would see Ramirez ink a five-year deal worth $90 million and Sandoval leave the World Series champion San Francisco Giants for a five-year deal worth nearly $100 million, TV channels reported.

For Ramirez, it would mark a return to the club that signed him at 16 as a shortstop from the Dominican Republic, although he was sent to Florida in 2005 after playing only twice for Boston.

Ramirez, a career .300 batter, was named the National League’s top newcomer in 2006 and made three All-Star Games in more than six seasons with the Marlins before being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2012.

Injuries hampered Ramirez with the Dodgers. He played only 86 games in 2013 while hitting .345, then batted .283 with 13 home runs and 71 runs batted in over 128 games last season.

Ramirez, 30, is likely to be moved to another fielding spot since the Red Sox have standout Xander Bogaerts set to play shortstop.

Sandoval, meanwhile, would likely become the new Red Sox third baseman after six seasons in the role for the Giants that produced three World Series crowns, including Most Valuable Player honors in the 2012 championship final.

Over 869 games for the Giants since 2008, two-time All-Star Sandoval batted .294 with 192 doubles, 106 homers and 462 runs batted in. Last season, the 28-year-old Venezuelan hit .279 with 16 homers and 73 runs batted in over 157 games.

In the play-offs, Sandoval has excelled with a .344 career batting average in 39 post-season games. He hit .366 this year in the play-offs and .429 in the World Series last month when the Giants edged Kansas City 4-3 in the best-of-seven final.

The Latin American sluggers would spark a Red Sox lineup that was the second-worst in the American League last season, batting .244.
