Resty Sibug and Pedy Lualhati emerged big winners as the Best Gross and Best Net champions last Friday in the Vista Land-FGA Annual Golf Tournament at Dirab Golf & Country Club.

Sibug, in his first tournament back after a few months hiatus due to medical reason, played like he never left as he shot an 80 to clinch the Best Gross title.

The immediate past Filipino Golf Association president, Sibug carded nines of 38-42 in a steady round that was sullied only by a double bogey on the par-5 No. 15.

Lualhati, another veteran golfer, continued his rich vein of form by winning the Best Net crown on 69. The 16-handicap Lualhati shot a gross score of 85 (43-42) to post another podium finish following his Second Division (10-18 handicap) first runner-up in the Annual SABB Golf Tournament two weeks back.

Rem Sibug recovered on the back nine and finished on 73 that gave him the Class A (0-9 handicap) title and another father-and-son double.

It was the third win in four starts for the 15-year old Rem who had won back-to-back events at InterContinental Golf Club and Nofa Golf Resort before failing to contend in the 22nd Saudi Aramco Invitational Tournament at Rolling Hills Golf Club in Dhahran.

After a modest front nine score of 44, Rem came charging back to shoot birdies on 15 and 17 against four bogeys for a 38 coming home.

Mar Vera Cruz was the Class A runner-up on 84.

FGA President Joe Vallado made this tournament, which is the first major under his leadership, one to remember by winning the Class B (10-19) title via the countback from Edwin Lacera after both players tied on 72. Vallado, with an 18 handicap, fired nines of 45-45 and had been neck-and-neck with Lualhati until the last five holes.

Abner Macapagal was the Class B second runner-up on 74.

Senior golfer, Mario Marimon, missed out on the Best Net prize by countback and had to settle for the Class C (20-28) crown on 69 with Paul Hawang first runner-up on 70 and Robert Mariano second runner-up on 71.

FGA Secretary Alan Malawanda claimed the award for nearest to the pin. Mike Veneracion took home the longest drive plum and Glenn Magistrado was the Most Exercised golfer awardee.

A total of 31 FGAers and their guests participated in the tournament with Vista Land as the major sponsor and BDO co-sponsor. Custom-made trophies courtesy of Vista Land were handed out to the winners during the awards ceremony.

The Vista Land sponsorship was facilitated by Eda B. Tambalogan, head International Operations, and Flore Bouzanne, managing director, Riyadh KSA. BDO sponsored the tournament organized in cooperation with Dirab Golf & Country Club through the courtesy of Jules Dela Torres, managing officer, Riyadh KSA.

Vista Land is to open offices in Jeddah and Alkhobar in January 2015, said Bouzanne, adding the real estate company is to invite financial literacy speaker to the Kingdom for the benefit of potential clients.

Vallado said the next tournament is the Ambassador’s Cup to be held in January next year.
