NEW YORK: Anaheim’s Frederik Andersen made 32 saves to help the road-weary Ducks to a 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers on Monday.
In the day’s other game, Winnipeg ended a run of three-straight defeats by beating Detroit 4-2.
Anaheim got first-period goals from Corey Perry and Kyle Palmieri and hung on to finish an eight-game road trip on a high, having secured 11 points from the last six of them.
In four NHL games, all this season, goaltender Andersen is 4-0. He has allowed a total of five goals, and only defenseman Michael Del Zotto got a puck past him in this one.
The Rangers received their third power play with 3:26 remaining, but that advantage was cut short when with New York’s first penalty of the game. Another came moments later for too many men on the ice.
Winnipeg’s Matt Halishuck scored the winner with his first goal for the Jets, who also got goals from Bryan Little, Michael Frolik and Andrew Ladd.
Henrik Zetterberg scored his eighth of the season for Detroit, and Danny DeKeyser scored his first NHL career goal.
The Jets took it to the Detroit net in the first period, outshooting the Red Wings 14-9 and scoring with just a minute left on a breakaway. They ended the game ahead 47-28.
Little opened the scoring when he got the jump on defenseman Kyle Quincy, who fell and left Winnipeg’s leading scorer to go in alone against Jimmy Howard. It was Little’s team-leading eighth goal of the season.
Meantime, Rangers captain Ryan Callahan is making his second comeback of the young NHL season, this time returning a bit early after recovering from a broken left thumb.
Callahan, who was sidelined for the entire preseason and the regular-season opener following shoulder surgery, is back in the New York lineup for Monday night’s home game against Anaheim.
He missed seven games after breaking his thumb while blocking a shot on Oct. 16 at Washington and was expected to be sidelined for at least three weeks.
Callahan made his season debut on Oct. 7 at Los Angeles and played five games before he was injured again.
