JEDDAH: The OFBC (Overseas Filipino Bowlers Club) made a big leap forward when it unveiled its Friday Morning League 5+1 Season 5 with record 15 teams in the fold at the Iceland Bowling Center.

Emerging stronger after the post-season under the leadership of newly appointed president Edwin Ronquillo OFBC had a fun-filled opening day with the venue almost packed to the rafters.

When the dust settled, Rock n Roll enjoyed a double celebration taking Team of the Week honors and the men’s Bowler of the Week award.

Preceding the games was the opening ceremony highlighted by the presentation of teams and in which Ronquillo delivered opening remarks and introduced his fellow officers for 2015. Albert Zuniga, operations manager of major sponsor Zikato Construction Co., was represented by wife Gemma Zuniga who made the ceremonial roll of the ball. A team from TFC led by Charles Tabbu attended the ceremony and added to the fun by giving away an Adroid tablet to the winner of TFC Connect “Kaya mo ba to?” contest namely Bryanne Marcus who bested Gemma Zuniga, Aexander Duma and Osman de Guzman.

This is the first time in the history of OFBC that the field for a tournament reached 15 with another team joining as late entry on the 2nd week putting the total at 16 which will battle it out in double round robin over eight months and 32 weeks.

Rock n Roll blanked Bangon Pilipinas 20-0 on total pinfalls of 2,590 and 2,437 and finish with a week-best total of 35 including rank points of 15.

Veteran Hadi Pacheco completed a Rock n Roll double by claiming Bowler of the Week honors on 569 that went on record as the high series with handicap to beat. Pacheco also set the high series scratch mark at 551. The comebacking Joel Nidoy, team captain of RTJ Transient House, set the records for high game scratch and high game with handicap at 209 and 215.

Fedelyn Bustinera of Taurus-Reinforced, a 16-4 winner over D’ Luf’s Strikers (2,529-2,515), was the ladies Bowler of the Week on 558, as he swept her division’s records for high series scratch, high series handicap, high game scratch and high game handicap at 558, 486, 194 and 218.

Pinbusters also won by 20-0 shutout over Baghaffar Medical Supplies (2,478-2,244). Pinbusters totaled 31 points on the day, a number bettered by 1 by Rotto Taurus which crushed Casadores-BGI-TBBGI 16-4 on total pifalls of 2,608-2,548.

And defending champion Cyclone? Its start was not probably as impressive as it expected after it came out 12-8 winner over RTJ Transient House on total pinfalls of 2,432-2,366.

Elsewhere, Terri Bowls became the third shutout winner against Tribo Triskellion Bowlers on total pinfalls of 2,347-2,119 while Zikato Strikers whipped D’ Splitters 16-4 (2,415-2,313). The bye team of the week, Lucky Strikers-SGH, posted 8 points on total pinfalls of 1,949.

Besides Pacheco the others that contributed to the Rock n Roll cause were Maf Castillo 498, Thea Busico 115-164-117, Tito Cruz 153-128, Marlyn Mangunay 154-131 and Osman de Guzman 187-144.

Rotto Taurus used a five-man team attack led by Hyeth Achai on 540 with Olie Jacinto on 533 with Lito Zamudo 520, Raul delos Reyes 519 and Epoy Santos on 496.
