RIYADH: SABB regained the top spot from last week leader Alinma Aspire it demolished BSF in four games (576-30 points) for back-to back victories during Week 15 and the last session of the second qualifying round at the Interbank Tenpin Bowlers of Riyadh (ITBR) league.

SABB never gave its opponent a chance during the four games match to boost a huge point advantage that should put the squad in good stead during the semifinal and final games. Team captain Ahmed Qarqoush burned the lanes with high games of 236, 247, 202 and 269 and took home Bowler of the Week honors. The exceptional team performance also rewarded them with the Team of the Week award for the fourth time this season. Ahmed was assisted by southpaw Arnold Jesena on 863, straight bowler Luis Bonguit 762, Gerry Austria 749 and Mohammed Abu Alsaud 692.

In BSF, the trio of Dawood Sereno, Edwin Timango and captain Jun Bantug joined forces but failed to produce the much-needed output to topple SABB. They rolled 712, 709, and 686 respectively while Abet Minoza and Noel Morales downed 507 and 500 in three games. Angel Diaz had 392 in two games.

Saudi Hollandi Bank stopped Alinma Aspire to score high this week ending the match in a 2-2 draw at 439-296 points However, SHB trio of Cholo Nieto, Clem Salazar and Arnel Bernabe produced a superb four-game series of 861, 855 and 800 to earn 399 bonus points to edge its opponent. Gerry Ayonon and captain Greg Antonio contributed 511 and 449 while Gil Hembra and Eckart Gayeta had 238 and 220.

Alinma Aspire did its best to keep the top spot for the second week running but failed given the charge of the mighty SABB. Koko Torres was at his usual sharp form to roll 812 with Angelo Train, Nayef Al Saud and Abdulrahman Ahmed on 756, 746 and 705 respectively. Captain Jojo de Silva had 583 while Lito Tolentino added 164.

SAIB and Alinman United drew their match but the former won with extra bonus points 297-210. Team captain Eddison Austria was the top scorer in SAIB on770 followed by Jonathan Avenido (752), Edwin Fontiveros (751), Gil Catulay (745) and Renato Torres (691).

In Alinma United, Alan Ofreneo shot 883. Team captain Bobby Ting made 690 Bernie Torres 677, Teody Zulaybar 671 and Vic Agregado 667.

Defending champion Riyad Bank continued to produce high win points to close the gap among the top three teams. Playing bye this week, Riyad Bank posted a huge 427 points to keep alive its hopes of defending its championship crown.

Southpaw Ronald dela Cruz sparkled with 809. He was supported by James Frizzle, Sonny Alviso and Freddie Solomon who carded 785, 760, 717 while captain Zohair Oqilan tallied 666 and Ric Singson 143 .

Last week’s results saw BSF fall short in its bid to enter the magic three with only 25 points. However, BSF took home the double award for Team of the Week on 429 win points and Bowler of the Week courtesy of Dawood Sereno. They played as bye team.

SABB toppled handicap-rich SAIB 390-80 while Riyad Bank had a surprising three game win against Alinma Aspire 370-140 and SHB almost blanked Alinma United in four games 370-30.

The tournament is played Monday nights at Universal Bowling Center (UBC) in Riyadh and is sponsored by all participating banks.
