JEDDAH: Cesar Sacramed and Babes Yushimine emerged the men’s and ladies OFBC Bowler of the Year champions at the end of the match play format competition last Friday at the Ice Land Bowling Center here.

The BOY finals culminated the monthly series to pick the Bowler of the Month in both divisions that began in January this year.

To start the day, qualified bowlers play three games with handicap to determine the top eight rankings in the men’s and ladies divisions.

Quarterfinal matchups had No. 1 up against No. 8, No. 2 vs. No. 7, No. 3 vs. No. 6 and No. 4 vs. No. 5.

Except for seventh seed Cesar Pagtalunan beating No. 2 Khaled Bulalayao 210-184 the men’s seedings went according to form. Top seed Ric Nangel beat Arman Gamboa (8) 205-187, third-ranked Jude Vivero defeated Obet Vedonia (6) 184-182, and No. 4 Sacramed routed Regino Mendoza (5) 199-156.

In the semifinals (match play roud 2), Nangel and Sacramed set up a title showdown by respectively beating Pagtalunan 187-150 and Vivero 199-160.

The decisive match play round 3 for the top prize had Class C bowler Sacramed beating rookie Nangel by 5 pins 200-195.

In the ladies race, Vivian Sacramed had a shot for a husband-and-wife BOY double but Yushimine spoiled the potential celebration by stopping Vivian 157-148 in match play round 3.

The second seed Vivian advanced to play Yushimine in the final with victories over No. 2 Carmen Duma 193-171 and top qualifier Farida De Guzman 188-160 in the earlier rounds.

No. 3 Yushimine, on the other hand, had earlier won against sixth seed Fedelyn Bustinera 174-147 and Hazel Junio 204-171.

In the other match play round 1 results, De Guzman brought down Delia Javing (8) 183-177 and No. 4 Junio defeated Mildred Ugalde (5) 188-180.

During the awarding ceremony Sacramed and Yushimine each received champion trophy to go with the cash prize of SR3,000, a bowling ball and gift item.
