Sponsor team Sarawat completed its dominant run to the title, beating D’ Barkads in the championship match and in the process denying them back-to-back crowns in the Thursday League 11th Season for Sarawat Superstores at the Bowling City in Sultana Center here.

With a twice-to-beat advantage as the waiting No. 1 finalist Sarawat never gave D’ Barkads a chance winnning by 982-968 in a match that ended the challenger’s hopes of extending the championship to a one-game knockout between the sides.

D’ Barkads, ranked third in the stepladder matches, earned the right to challenge Sarawat for the champion trophy by eliminating No. 2 Bowling City 1,050 to 1,019 pinfalls.

The first match of the six-team stepladder was a playoff for teams 4, 5 and 6 that No. 6 Habagat 1,953 won against fifth-ranked Bulacan Knight 1,944 and No. 4 Orient 1,936.

Against D’ Barkads Habagat showed little and lost heavily 994-935, as the D’ Barkads trio of Romy Bunagan, Rey Beltran and Ladio Gonzales carded 200 gmaes of 223, 219 and 213.

D’ Barkads won their second straight match against Bowling City and had to win two more for them to realize consecutive titles in the competition sponsored by Sarawat Superstores.

But before they could even make a first step their hopes had been dashed by the form team and eventual champion of the tournament Sarawat.

Three from the Sarawat quintet namely Gerry Mandanas, Mohammad Amri and captain Igna Salgado rolled big games of 222, 217 and 207 to go with the 173 by Bandr Al Dossary and 163 by Paolo Allego.

Bunagan’s 212 was the highest score posted by D’ Barkads with Rey Beltran on 196, Leo Edejer 193 and James Galvan 192.

Meantime, the Thursday League 12th Season for Mobily Globe Cup is now under way, according to league organizer Salgado.

The new tournament is sponsored by Mobily through Rannie Basanta, Filipino community consultant at Mobily.
