AMMAN: Rally star Yazeed Al-Rajhi has paid a visit to orphans left homeless as a result of the Syrian conflict during his preparations for this weekend’s Jordan Rally.

The 34-year-old Saudi is one of the big names on the FIA Middle East Rally Championship, but took time out to visit the Kitab Walsunah charity in Amman, which cares for some of the 1.5 million refugees that have poured into the Kingdom as a result of the war.

“It is humbling to see firsthand the damage that this conflict has caused,” said Al-Rajhi, who was appointed a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador back in 2008. “I wanted to see what I could do to bring a smile to some of these kids’ faces and also raise awareness for the wonderful work this charity does.

“Jordan continues to do a remarkable job in hosting so many people. This is not surprising because it is a country renowned for its hospitality and friendliness. A lot of help is needed. It is important to do what we can to support both Jordan and the refugees affected.”

Al Rajhi, who is ranked second for the Jordan Rally behind Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah this weekend, spent his time playing with the children and listening to their stories. He also distributed toys and other aid as well as making a financial contribution.

The Jordan Rally gets underway at 2.30pm on Thursday in Abdoun followed by two days of action on routes located through the Dead Sea and Jordan Valley areas.
