RALEIGH, North Carolina: Patrick Sharp scored in the shootout and the Chicago Blackhawks claimed the 2,500th victory in club history by beating the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 Tuesday night.

Sharp and Marian Hossa also scored 2:22 apart in the first period for the defending Stanley Cup champions, who blew a 2-0 lead in the third before winning in the tiebreaker.

Corey Crawford finished with 32 saves, then stopped three Carolina shooters in the shootout.

After Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews came up empty, Sharp beat Cam Ward with a nifty forehand in the third round.

Crawford then stuffed Jeff Skinner to end it, making the Blackhawks the last of the Original Six to reach the 2,500-win mark.

Alexander Semin and Ron Hainsey scored during Carolina’s third-period rally.

Ward stopped 34 shots for Carolina.

Avalanche 3 Stars 2: In Denver, Matt Duchene scored twice and Semyon Varlamov stopped 39 shots, helping Colorado hold off Dallas and improve to 6-0 in Patrick Roy’s first season on the bench.

Jan Hejda also scored as the Avs moved within a win of tying the franchise’s best start.

The organization was 7-0 in 1985-86 as the Quebec Nordiques.

By winning six straight, Roy ties the NHL record for victories to start a coaching career. He shares the mark with Mario Tremblay, who won his first six games with Montreal in 1995-96, a team Roy played for before being traded to the Avalanche later that season.

Rich Peverley and Cody Eakin had goals for the Stars, who outshot the Avs 41-26 in dropping their second straight game on the road.

Senators 4 Coyotes 3, OT: In Glendale, Arizona, Cory Conacher scored at 2:48 of overtime, Jason Spezza completed a natural hat trick to erase a two-goal deficit and Ottawa ended a four-game losing streak with its win over Phoenix.

Phoenix took a 2-0 lead on quick goals by Rob Klinkhammer and Radim Vrbata in the second period, but the Senators rallied behind Spezza’s fifth hat trick.

Mike Ribeiro tied it with just over three minutes left with his first goal of the season, redirecting a shot by Oliver Ekman-Larsson on a power play to send the game to overtime.

Sharks 6 Blues 2: In St. Louis, Joe Thornton had a goal and three assists, Patrick Marleau had a goal and two assists, and San Jose downed St. Louis in the matchup of unbeaten teams that was halted in the first period when Sharks defenseman Dan Boyle was taken off on a stretcher after being checked from behind by the Blues’ Maxim Lapierre.

The Sharks said Boyle was alert and responsive on the way to the hospital.

Lapierre was ejected for the check 5:22 into the first, and 79 minutes in penalties followed before the period was over.

The Sharks got a goal and assist from Logan Couture.

Joe Pavelski, Tommy Wingels and Scott Hannan also scored, while Antti Niemi stopped 25 shots.

Maple Leafs 4 Wild 1: In Toronto, Mason Raymond scored two goals, James Reimer made 36 saves and Toronto beat Minnesota, improving to 6-1-0 to continue its best start since 1993, when the Maple Leafs opened with 10 straight wins.

Toronto scored four goals on only 14 shots.

Because of penalties, the Wild spent more than a quarter of the first period on the power play. That meant Reimer faced plenty of shots and was the Leafs’ best penalty-killer.

Minnesota goalie Darcy Kuemper struggled with little action.

The Leafs scored on their first shot, a tic-tac-toe passing play from Cody Franson to Dave Bolland to Tyler Bozak that Kuemper couldn’t stop at 4:24 of the first.

Penguins 3 Oilers 2: In Pittsburgh, Evgeni Malkin’s power-play goal 7:20 into the third period put Pittsburgh in front for good and the Penguins stayed hot at home by beating Edmonton.

Pascal Dupuis and Chris Kunitz also scored for Pittsburgh. Sidney Crosby assisted on all three Penguins goals to vault him into the NHL scoring lead. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 20 shots for Pittsburgh to improve to 5-0 on the season.

Ales Hemsky and Jordan Eberle scored for Edmonton. Jason Labarbera made 25 saves, but struggled with puck control as the Oilers dropped their fourth straight.

Edmonton twice battled back to tie it but had no answer after Malkin’s second goal of the season. Crosby earned the secondary assist on the score and has points in each of Pittsburgh’s first six games.

Canucks 3 Flyers 2: In Philadelphia, Ryan Kesler scored the second of his two goals with 2:25 left in the third period to lead Vancouver over Philadelphia, which fell to 1-6 overall and 1-3 under coach Craig Berube.

Chris Higgins also scored for Vancouver and Roberto Luongo made the win stand with 20 saves.

Tye McGinn scored both goals for the Flyers, who haven’t scored more than two goals in a game this season.

Higgins and Kesler and each scored in the third period to rally Vancouver.
