Christer Rem Sibug played a golf game to remember in his swan song at Nofa Golf Resort, teaming with his father Resty to win the Riyad Bank Golf Championship recently.

Set to return to his native Philippines to pursue college studies, the talented 16-year old and Resty put together a brilliant round of 8-under 65 that would have been enough to win the two-person Texas Scramble format competition even without their handicap of four.

They ended up winning by five from the pair of Richard Dunn and Gary Stobie with a net score of 61. Dunn and Stobie tallied a net 66 from a gross score of 74 and 8 handicap.

The next four podium places were decided via the countback after the sides tied on 67. Faran Irfan and Kevin Hanlon with a gross score of 75 and 8 handicap took the third place, Jan Jamren-Bertil Sandstrom (78-11) fourth, Alan Janveir and Gareth Moris (78-11) fifth and the team of Jonathan Mortell and Albert Barclay (78-11) sixth.

Playing extremely well, the Sibug father-and-son team made birdies in bunches — 8 in all, five of them in a trot from the first hole.

The elder Sibug said Rem holed four birdie putts and one by him in a hot start for the only Filipino team to join the tournament that attracted 42 teams and 84 players.

“We are so happy because this is the last tournament of Rem at Nofa where he has memories to cherish for the rest of his life,” said the proud father of his son who also won the 1st Annual Castrol-Nofa Golf Tournament in November last year.

“Rem was putting well and he is in great shape. I just hope he carries this momentum to help him in his future golfing career,” said Resty, adding they made 3 more birdies on the backnine, two of them courtesy of Rem, who will take up business management course at University of the Assumption in San Fernando City, Pampanga.

Also, Rem is to hone his golf skills under coach Omar Dungca, with Beverly Place Golf & Country Club in Mexico, Pampanga as his sponsor.

For their feat, Resty and Rem each received Taylormade Stage 2 irons set and a trophy.

The longest drive awards for men and ladies went to Hugh Kidman and Liz Kennedy, while Norhalim Nasir claimed the closest to pin award. Handsome prizes were also raffled off including the grand raffle draw prize of Taylormade irons set.

Riyad Bank executives namely Executive Vice President Mohamed Al Rabeah, EVP Business Support Riyad Al Zahrani and Senior Vice President John Morris attended the prize distribution ceremony.

Nofa Resorts General Manager Eamonn Hanlon presented Al Rabeah a plaque of appreciation in recognition of Riyad Bank's generous support of the tournament.
