JEDDAH: SMDC edged out Tamimi 90-88 in the centerpiece Division A (Group of Powerhouse Teams) during the Week 3 actions in the 1st Filipino Community Basketball League (FCBL) Basketball Tournament.
Veteran Christian Guimpatan scored 18 points including the game-clinching free throws while Best Player of the game awardee Gonzales finished with 22 points for SMDC.
It was the first game for both teams in the six-team division including Kabayangents, Juffali, Syrian IKK and AVK Wildboyz.
Villegas and Noblejas led Tamimi with 28 and 19 points respectively.
ALJ FedEx became the first team of the tournament to score back-to-back victories when it brought down Taken 95-83 in the nightcap Friday.
ALJ’s Lisztian Amparado and Pascua of Take had matching tallies of 32 points in torrid shooting battle but it was Amparado that had the advantage when he clinched Best Players honors while leading his team to its second win in two outings.
Villegas and Gadingan supported Amparado with 18 and 13 points respectively. Neo added 21 points for Taken and Caisip and Juma each had 10 points.
Al Muhaidib hammered out a 79-74 win over SMDC in a clash of debuting teams in Division B (Group of Star Studded Teams).
In another interesting game, Yummy Yummy took down fancied Freyssinet 70-65 as it rebounded from an opening day defeat by AVK Pioneers in Division C2 (Group of Bae’s Team).
Quirao with 22 points was named Best Player while leading Yummy Yummy to victory. Ramos with 13 points and Carlabuso with 12 were the other leading scorers at Yummy Yummy.
For Freyssinet Suguitan led the way with 23 points, while Castillo and Tapinit contributed 15 and 14 points.
Also winning its first game of tournament was Falcunit, 90-78 over Rimmel in Division C2.
Elsewhere, SACO overpowered Gulf Taleed 79-57 in Division C3 (Group of Wannabees), Brawlers, Olive Arabia defeated Jeddah Warriors 57-45 inn C2, Jeddah Hilton won over Sofitel Hotel 73-60 in C3 and UDH won its first game against Mohd. Baksh in C1.
