JEDDAH: Finally, after the storm that battered the arguably longest running basketball show in town, the FBA (Filipino Basketball Association) 37th Season concluded recently. The last playing day Friday at Sheraton Jeddah Hotel Sport Complex basketball court witnessed three championship games and one knockout game for third place.
In the centerpiece Category B, Tamimi Petro Rabigh showed who was the better team taking down Nexus 74-68 in the Game 3 of the best-of-three championship series. The trio of Noblejas, Napiza and Pagbilao scored 20, 18 and 12 points to lead the Petro Rabigh charge. Montejo and Berrido led Nexus with 11 and 13 points.
Claiming the Category C championship was Durrat Al Arous, a close 78-76 winner over Avengers in the final match where Montejo and Berrido were on the winning team this time scoring 26 points and 13 to go with the 12 by Loyola.
The D Pool 1 title was easily won by Francis Magat’s Uncle Majid Rice & Toppings. Led by Rey Razon with 38 points, Geniza with 12 and Alarcon with 11, Magat’s team whipped Mussali Gold 97-82.
Fawri defeated UDH 92-89 in the D Pool 1 third place match.
The awarding took place on the final week of the tournament that has been hit by suspension of games and other problems. In the end though resiliency prevailed and the FBA under the leadership of Edgar Mendoza survived, as it looks forward to the 38th Season hopefully stronger and better with lessons learned.
