In a game of runs, the Schindler boys took the early lead against Toyota to gain the momentum in the first canto and pushed it to eight points before the quarter ended but once again still fell short as the veteran and the reigning champion team won 75-58 at the weekend in the 2012 OFBL Reinforced Second Conference at the Timeout Sports Academy gymnasium on Television Street, Ghulail District on the outskirts of Jeddah.

The Overseas Filipino Basketball League (OFBL) organized the tournament in cooperation with Al-Zugbi Sports Tailoring, MJE, Art’s Cuisine, Pinoy Photographers Club and Timeout.

The veteran playmaking by Nap Peredo including hitting big shots from beyond the arc and fastbreak layups by the reigning Best Forward and Most Valuable Player MJ Dela Cruz made Schindler hit the bottom of the team standings.

Schindler was ahead only in the first quarter but after that, Toyota went full blast until the final buzzer to extend its streak to three games.

From the big guys up to the guards, the fired up ALJ Hospital boys easily found their game going to outrun IMC in a 90-69 victory in the Inter-Hospital Division.

In the first quarter, IMC showed some semblance of a fight despite having to deal with big man Fadi Al-Taweel in the paint. The quarter ended 18-16 to ALJ but in the next three quarters, Eric Mabarit and Paul Taguba combined to spark a breakaway in the second quarter while point guard Yoyong Akmad hit three consecutive midrange shots to finish the quarter 42-26.

It was smooth sailing the rest of the way for ALJ which is sponsored by UIS (United Installment Sales Co.) through Saeed Al Ghamdi, vice president for Finance. It was the third straight victory for ALJ led by the winning tandem of manager Jimmy Abdullah Beltran and coach Ibrahim Camelo Mendez, who together won four championships last season.

In only its second game after winning its opener on Nov. 16, Compass Ocean Logistics denied new entrant Tawzea back-to-back victories in the making by winning their match 84-72.

It was all Tawzea in the first half. Pupos and Estrella combined for 24 points to give Tawzea a 24-15 first half lead, with Mohammed taking care of the rebounds.

Pasculado and Mohammed combined for 15 points as Tawzea sat on a 39-34 advantage at the half but Compass boys tightened up their defense especially Mendoza and Padernal who collared defensive rebounds and set up fast break layups for guards Julia and Viscayno who had 12 points between them.

The third quarter ended 62-51 to Compass.

Tawzea was in the lead midway through the fourth quarter courtesy of Pupos and Mohammed but “The Flash” Julia snatched the ball from the hands of the the Tawzea guards and completed the steals while getting support from Ramos, who buried a big three point shot, and Aquino with his rebounding prowess to get the win for Compass.

Al-Zamil won the game against Bupa 80-68 and remained unbeaten in the tournament.

Bhara Cables got back-to-back victories as they trounced Delta Water 78-69.

King Fahad Hospital bounced back from a defeat by ALJ, winning against King Adbul Aziz Hospital 90-68.

Mahmoud Gharib got a victory against the struggling Andaluz team 86-70. PSI hammered out a breathtaking 89-86 victory against Rabya boys.

Rabya looked headed to victory but its hopes ended when Dela Paz hit a cold blooded three-point shot that gave PSI victory in the tournament.
