JEDDAH: All Filipino Virgin Mobile Spikers opened and closed the Friday proceedings with mixed results, winning against last conference champion Play Time 25-19, 25-20 but losing against Jeddah United Hitters in the nightcap match that went the distance 25-19, 28-30, 15-12 in the 2nd Conference Kalayaan Volleyball Cup at Trio Ranch and Country Club courts.
Against Play Time Anedson Noble led Virgin Mobile scoring seven points for the victory that gave the team a 3-0 record.
“We are not as good as them technically and Virgin Mobile Spikers were a great team tonight. We had a hard time, said Play Time captain Rod Rayyan Cailles, who returned to the court along with his teammates to beat Jeddah Blue Strikers 25-8- 25-12.
Play Time star Jamil Robert Antiporda finished on 7 points in his best scoring effort thus far in the tournament night to claim the Best Player award for the third game.
It was the third straight defeat in four games for Jeddah Blue Spikers whose team captain Mark Salardo said: “Play Time is “a good defensive team. We’ve played against them a lot.”
Viel Christopher Oniel who led Jeddah United with 12 points was the fourth match Best Player of the Game.
Jeddah United Hitters are the only unbeaten team in the tournament with a 3-0 record.
The match between NGHA-KAMC and IPSJ Wild Cats was rescheduled as agreed by both teams.
