NEW YORK: The Yankees beat the Mets 6-1 in Friday’s opening game of the all-New York interleague series, ending the Mets’ record-tying 11-game winning streak.

The victory kept the Yankees equal top of the American League East standings along with Boston, while a game behind that pair, Tampa Bay moved level with Toronto by trouncing the Blue Jays, while AL leader Kansas City had its game against the Chicago White Sox suspended due to rain with the scores tied in the ninth inning.

The Los Angeles Dodgers stayed top of the National League West with a shutout win at San Diego.

The Yankees’ win owed most to a pair of two-run homers by Mark Teixeira.

Starter Michael Pineda (3-0) allowed one run in 7 2-3 innings; his longest outing with the Yankees, who won for the seventh time in eight games and posted their first home win against the Mets in five attempts.

Los Angeles pitcher Zack Greinke extended his mastery of NL West opponents by holding San Diego scoreless for seven innings, guiding the Dodgers to a 3-0 victory.

Greinke (3-0) improved to 21-1 with a 1.88 ERA in 31 games against division opponents since joining the Dodgers in 2013. He is 15-0 in his last 19 starts against NL West teams.

Carl Crawford hit a homer for the Dodgers, who had lost their previous three games, and instead inflicted a three-game skid on the Padres.

Tampa Bay’s James Loney, Rene Rivera and Tim Beckham each hit two-run homers, powering the Rays to a 12-3 win against Toronto.

The home runs by Loney and Rivera came in a four-run fourth inning off R.A. Dickey (0-2) as Tampa Bay earned a third straight win.

Kansas City’s game at Chicago was suspended at 2-2 after eight innings.

The game was suspended after a 40-minute delay. It will be resumed on Saturday afternoon with the Royals batting in the top of the ninth. Saturday’s originally scheduled game will begin when the suspended contest is over.

Boston beat Baltimore 7-5 to inflict a fifth-successive loss on the Orioles.

Brock Holt hit a tiebreaking three-run homer off Darren O’Day in the eighth inning, while David Ortiz and Hanley Ramirez also connected for the Red Sox.

Baltimore’s five-game skid is their longest since 2013.

Cleveland’s Brandon Moss homered twice and drove in seven runs as the Indians routed Detroit 13-1.

Moss hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning and a two-run shot in the ninth for an Indians team that had not had a single multi-run homer this season.

Houston’s Robbie Grossman singled in two runs in the 11th inning to give the Astros a 5-4 win against Oakland.

The result lifted the Astros to a 9-7 record; matching their best start to a season for eight years.

In the 11th, Chris Carter and Colby Rasmus drew walks off Eric O’Flaherty (0-2). After Hank Conger’s sacrifice moved the runners over, Grossman lined a 3-0 pitch to left to put Houston up by two runs. Jose Altuve added an RBI single, and they needed all that advantage because the A’s scored two runs in the bottom of the innings.

Pittsburgh’s Gerrit Cole pitched into the eighth inning to guide the Pirates to a 4-1 win at Arizona.

Cole (3-0) allowed one run in 7 2/3 innings with seven strikeouts.

Colorado’s Rafael Ynoa snapped a sixth-inning tie with an RBI double as the Rockies beat San Francisco 6-4.

Chicago’s Jonathan Herrera singled home the tiebreaking run in the 11th inning, and David Ross followed with a bases-loaded double that sent the Cubs to a 7-3 victory against Cincinnati.

The Los Angeles Angels edged Texas 3-2, with David Freese hitting the go-ahead homer.

St. Louis’ Carlos Martinez struck out eight in seven scoreless innings to steer the Cardinals to a 3-0 win against Milwaukee.

Philadelphia scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the ninth inning, as Atlanta’s Freddie Freeman mishandled Ben Revere’s ground ball to first, allowing Freddy Galvis to score the winning run and give the Phillies a 1-0 win against the Braves.

Seattle’s Felix Hernandez retired his first 14 batters and pitched a complete game shutout as the Mariners beat Minnesota 2-0.

Miami’s Martin Prado hit a tiebreaking RBI single in the eighth inning as the Marlins defeated Washington 3-2.
